Toureg TDI Stuttering and Hesitation Post-Fix

Does anyone get a bit of stuttering and hesitation on their Toureg diesel during the warm up cycle? It happens with light acceleration right before the 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 gear changes. Happens to me every morning and most evenings when I leave from work.

This has been going on ever since the "fix" was installed. Two dealers have said they have no idea what is causing this and that it's normal for post-fix diesel Tregs to do this. Both say its not the transfer case and it has had a good throttle body and intake cleaning recently.

Anything abnormal is a result of the fix. Most dealers have no clue, wait for 5yrs and none will be able to service our diesels. My 2016 engine runs exactly as it should. The tranny adjustments make due to the fix are a pain till the engine warms up. It holds lower gears longer than I like. I feel the engine is normal.

I did get this throttle stumble when cold, but it has reduced to near-zero since I did a seafoam treatment of the injectors through the fuel tank. Our 2015 Treg has 113,000 km.

I have this exact same issue on my 14 A6 TDI and I’ve been trying to figure out what it is to no avail. It’s exactly as you describe and does it every time until it warms up. I’ll have to try the treatment mentioned as well and see if that helps. At least my car is not the only one doing it so that’s a relief

Andrei: what kind of mileage is on your A6 diesel? Maybe you have injector coking buildup that is degrading the flamefront(s) of your combustion cycle.

My 2013 TDI Lux has the same hesitation noted, came on after the fix at 72K but cannot really say if its the fix or accumulated mileage so the Sea Foam route seems to be worth trying....
The vehicle was just into the dealer for a 90K check and they of course found nothing

My Treg is also at 70K miles. After this Seafoam treatment two weeks ago, my throttle hesitation is 90% gone. I suspect it was coking buildup on my fuel injectors.

If you toggle your Treg diesel to use Cayenne transmission shift pattern, that will further address the throttle-brake-throttle hesitation at yield signs.

I have a 2013 with the fix and I get the same thing when weather is colder. When it bothers me I switch to manually shifting until it warms up and that helps. Also, using diesel additive like Power Service Diesel helps. I think with the Power Service diesel I've never felt it. I do replace the fuel filter very often. Its easy to do it yourself. That might be something to consider, especially if you are using some fuel treatment.

One thing to watch out for is cheap diesel. I have a bunch of stations around that say they have some amount of biodiesel fuel blends. AVOID THOSE. It actually says it on the fill tank to avoid those. Even when I've fueled up in stations that are not on main highways where the diesel is not replenished that much I can get stuttering. I now just go to a couple places that I know are good and have not had the stuttering issues since. Unless its really stupidly February Wisconsin cold, then all cars run funny and do weird things during warm-up.

I might have spoken too soon on this. First tank with the additive was no difference.

By the second talk I could barely ever feel it, almost not at all and very Faintly if it ever happened.

I am on my third tank with the additive now and I can very rarely feel it and it’s barely there.

Before, it would happen all the time on a cold engine. I will use the additive every fuel tank from now on. I’m not sure if other additives will work as the previous owner gave me a box full of stanadyne so that’s what I’ll be using for a while

My 2016 TDI Exec started doing this recently too. I am not sure if I want to take a day off work to sit at the dealership for them to tell me that it is nothing. Like they did with the shaking in the steering wheel. I dealt with that with my 2013 Lux, and I thought it had been resolved with the 2016's but as soon as I got the tires rotated, it was there.

I will try the Seafoam as well. Thanks!

I too have noticed this in my 14 R-line. In addition I recently filled up the tank after hitting about a 1/4 tank....down a the road a bit I noticed fuel gauge had not moved. Over the course of a 1.5 hour drive it slowly rose to Full. Very odd. I treated the tank with K100 for diesel and just now filled up this weekend, about two weeks since the last fill up. The sender seemed to work fine. I am simultaneously monitoring for stutter to see if the K100 clears that up at all.

My New to me 2011"fixed"Lux also has the minor studded/shudder,and the fix was just completed in Sept. The Egg has only 37K mi.
The other suggested "seafood"(pun) method (from a knowledgable european reviewer) said to change the fuel filter and put the "seafood" directly in the filter canister ,for maximum dosing and carbon removal,vs adding it to the gas tank .I am currently using Lucas IC w very tank (only 2 fill ups so far.)

Would like input from you guys on this method (any downside?) as long as were on the subject.
Thanks

RE: Studder Issue :
The Dealer advised today that unless the car is throwing a code ,theres nothing wrong with it !

They sell PS fuel additive ,and used to recommend cyclone ?? brand ,as used by big diesels in the winter.

Also explained the 10k oil change interval was brought about by VW with the intro of the longer warranty period ,to reduce the cost of 5k oil changes that were the previous interval.
he suggests maintaining a 5K oil chg interval if you own the vehicle, I agree.

Anybody have an update?? I dont think this is caused by the transmission fix. I have my TCU flashed back to the original transmission file and I still have the same hesitation as the OP described. The hesitation is super annoying because nobody really has a decent answer for what's causing it.
