Hey Hey!
I am picking my Touareg V10 on tuesday! It's built 10/04 and complianced in 1/05..... Is there any small faults for this touareg I should know before I drive it away?

I have read the other topics, but they dont seem to be for Australian market.

But if it's fault free so far for Australian market, it will be so sweet

I've been driving mine since December, 6700 miles. So far, the only unscheduled service events are:

1. Main battery replacement
2. Steering alignment sensor replacement
3. Air suspension wiring harness replacement

Number one caused the most pain, since I had to go without for about 5 days while they did diagnosis and sourced the part (the story is posted in the "Problems & Bugs" forum). The other two were fixed in less than 24 hours (#3 while I waited). In all cases, I was able to drive to service (who always had an available Jetta or Passat loaner if I wanted) when the errors emerged.

That's it. Minor annoyances really, and every other moment in the saddle has been pure bliss. I suspect you'll enjoy it in the outback!

Hi,

Congratulations on your V10. A fantastic machine to drive, 760 nm of Torque is pure bliss. It's easy to upset WRX drivers from the lights.

Some free advice:-

Be carefull when you fill with fuel, only use quality fules from outlets like Mobil, Shell or Caltex. Ensure fuel is not blended, often outlets with 3-5 even 8 cent/litre price reduction can blend recycled Oils with quality Diesel.

My wife recently purchased blended fuel which caused fuel economy to almost rise instantly from 10-11l/100km to 13-14l/100Km.

I had to have remainder drained and flushed. Bad fuel can cause the high pressure electronic fuel pump to fail, which can cost AUD$3,500 plus labour.

Do not take the risk with cheap fuel, you will not save anything, infact the moment I filled with quality fuel from say Mobil, my fuel consumption dropped back between 10-11l/100km, fuel consumption is a very accurate measure of fuel quality.

Have just completed 16,500Km in mine and have developed a minor front suspension sensor fault which is no serious issue, will be fixed by VW, otherwise a fantastic vehicle to drive.

I was so impressed with high tech VW Diesels, I purchased my wife a 2.0 TDI Golf.

Good luck

Hope you enjoy the awesome V10! And if you can then join us for the first Sydney Treg meet on June 19th.

Hey people,
Thanks V10-downunder for the fuel advice. I usually fill up my diesel with BP anyway, cause I heard they r cleaner.
Talk about acceleration from that car is quite unbelieveable for its size. And I will try to go to the Treg meet.

vw aust has reccomended to me that i use the BP diesel as it is already meeting (and tested daily) the 2006 low sulphur specs...

I drove from central coast to bathurst return the other day in the R5 egg and got 8.8l/100 coming home and 9.2l/100 going there! very good indeed.

Matthew, I like your fuel economy specs for the R5 - my current vehicle is an auto 3 litre Nissan Patrol diesel, and that gives excellent economy (for such a heavy truck) of around 10. I have been hoping that the egg with its lighter weight (! patrol > 2500kg) and higher tech engine will be significantly better. Most of my driving is down the F3 or up the Hunter Valley from Newcastle, so it is usually highway running.

Touareg V10 TDI is over 2600 kg.

r5 not much lighter than V10 and probably within 60kg's of the nissan.

I travel the F3 from pearl beach to hornsby twice per week and can get below 9l/100km when crusing at 115km/h and the hilly trip thru the national park...

Spockcat and Matthewf,
Sorry, my comment was based on specs I have checked out while looking at what to buy, and I came up with (all oz spec):
Nissan Patrol (my current vehicle) 2435kg kerb weight.
Touareg R5 (coming soon) 2235kg kerb weight. (the same source has V10 at 2470kg)
This gives the R5 Egg a 200kg advantage over the Patrol, and hence my comment about its "lighter weight" as well as better technology leading to better fuel economy.
Anyway, whatever the reason, this is really great fuel economy, (a few years ago this was toyota corolla territory!) and if the price of diesel was back where it should be (10c/l cheaper than petrol instead of dearer) it would be so much the better...
