Thought this was good info for the DIYers who need to replace OEM size....but also helpful for those who wish to swap out to LEDs. The info provided is good...got it from Sylvania website.

If anyone knows the exact size in millimeter for the dome bulb, please post up.

Thanks.

Pete

Just changed out both the H7 and H9 bulbs in my 2004 V6 Treg and the most difficulty I had was finding the retaining clip--on my car, it's accessed by the round hole. I was unable to see the clip through the hole but found it easily enough by looking from within the engine compartment--on mine it's a brassy color with an indentation for a screwdriver blade. I also found that after passing the retaining clip, the headlight assembly would not completely slide out until the screwdriver was removed from the access hole.

Another note; if you have large hands, you'll find it difficult to change out the H9 bulbs as the access hole is pretty small. You may want to engage the assistance of a small-handed helper to reach inside and twist the old bulb out and the new bulb in.

All in all, the original instructions on VWVortex were very helpful as others have mentioned.

Not LED lights, but if you're looking in this thread for bulb sizes, here's one:

Bi-Xenon Headlights (white - not bluish like factory)

Sylvania
Part Number: W0133-1647934
Notes: D1S Bi-Xenon - 12V - 55w D1S Gas Discharge 12V 35W Bulb
I ordered a pair of these Bi-Xenon headlights from Partsgeek.com at this link:
2004 Volkswagen Touareg Headlight Bulb - Body Electrical - Heliolite, Sylvania - PartsGeek
it's the last one on the bottom, part #W0133-1647934. I installed both of them and they work perfectly. Like I said, they're white not bluish like factory but they're still very bright and they were only $111.95 each. Use the code SAVE5 to save 5% on that website.

Unused lamp sockets on liftgate

I was looking over my "new 2 me" 2005 base model and discovered empty sockets in each of the clusters in the liftgate. There appears to be no lamps used (based on parts searches) in these sockets. They are alongside the reverse lamps. Does anyone know if these are supposed to be empty and if not, what these are for?

They are the rear fog lights which are not wired and you don't have the switch to turn them on anyhow. Not required here in the US, but people have wired them to work.

I'm nearly done converting all my bulbs to blue LED, just the dome light and the 2 cargo area bulbs to to. This is because I got 36mm bulbs by mistake. However, I measured the original bulbs and theyre more like 42mm - so I've ordered this size and will report progress (and pics of finished job) when they arrive...

@Malte

This is what Xenons look like:

And this is what halogens look like:

Do you have headlight bulb washers in the front bumper? If so, then you will probably have Xenons. However, they are rare.

The downsidfe of installing "bluer" bulbs is that there is less white light on the road and you may not see as well as trying to keep to the standard of about 4300 Kelvin [the OEM color].

Yup...

With the exception of the front marker parking light, all bulbs are the same.

I offer for sale the complete family of Philips lighting including all halogen or bi-xenon choices legal for sale in North America plus all miniatures ringing the vehicle.

Let me know if I can be of service... I ship these parts by Priority Mail for a two day delivery nationwide.

Regards,

Geoff
