Ok here we go. I know this will open a can of worms! I need new tires . 05 treg v8 with 19 inch wheels . I cant decide between the continental 4x4. Or the Michelin Lttude sport. Help!

While I've never used either, I've heard a great deal of negatives about treadlife on the Contis.

OEM for the '05 19's were either Continentals (not sure which product line) or Pirelli P-Zero Rossos. I don't think the Rossos were very long-lived either.

Also, check out reviews at the Tire Rack for more info.

Good luck,
Matt

I am unimpressed with the tread life of my Michelin Dimaris' in 275/45-19. Lots of wear after just 10K. Great ride and handling though. Maybe the problem is vehicle weight plus 4WD?

Perhaps its the inflation, because I just turn 48000 miles with the Diamaris,285/45R 19 and they are just about to give up, I ordered the Hp Latitude Hp, lets see!!!, according to Tire RacK the treadwear of the Hp Latitude are even better that the Diamaris Hope to see that!!!

Buy some HR rated tires in stead of VR. I did not notice a difference in handling but they last a lot longer.
If you plan to go over 130MPH then do not buy them
I have Good Year fortera triple treads. Very good tire have over 40k on them now

Not knowing where you live and therefore not knowing what kind of weather you get in a annual basis makes for a difficult answer.

I'm looking towards the Nokian brand so that it gets better Winter traction. I get Winter for about 5-6 months.

I have the Bridgestone Duelers on my 04. They were almost new when I bought the car used. They are great. Good moderate offroad use and great high speed highway and street use. Mileage rating is up there. So far I think they will go at least 40K based on how they're wearing now. Worth considering.

I'm another fan of the Hankook tyres. Best life , grip, handling combo I've had. By the way I run high pressure in my tyres, rotate , nitro but don't get much more than 40,000 klms, 26,000 miles. Conti's piss poor milage in my experience.

I think the discrepency in tread life has to do with tire size. 275/45 19's don't seem to wear well.

Quick question guys... Now that I have my 17 inch wheels i am trying to decide between 275/60/17 tires or 255/60/17. the difference is about an inch or so in diameter.

Anyone have a suggestion between those to sizes? Would one be better or worse for snow/offroad given the slight difference?

I had 285/45/19 Toyo Proxes ST's on my 2004 Touareg V8. The handled well, but after about 25K miles they were getting pretty noise with 40-50% treadwear left. I would not recommend them since someone on this forum or vwvortex said similar things about tread noise after 25K miles, but others may have different experiences.

I am currently running Continental Cross-Contact UHP's in 275/45VR 20 and I am basically going to replace them soon because they are almost down to the wear bars. I will get about 20,000 miles which it took me two calendar years to acheive.

Anyone here used the Kumho Ecsta STX? most of the review talk about tire noise. I would not mind another set of the continentals but I don't want to spend over a grand just for four tires.

Most of the VR rated tires out there in this size that are not directional only have treadwear rating in the 200's or 300's the most. and all the other directional tires that have higher tread wear are directional which means they may or may last much longer than the tires with lower treadwears.

I don't really need tires with a speed rating that high but ultra high performance tires offer better braking performance and control.

I may just get the Kumho's and live with the tire noise I am keeping my fingers crossed that some one will Offer a 420 treadwear V rated tire with asymetrical tread for an average price of $175.00 or less

Since I already have an account with Les Schwab I'm thinking about the Toyo Proxes ST II with a siping job, but I'm concerned with the Winter traction and the mileage that I can get out of them.

I really don't want to have two different sets of tires and wheels in my garage. Also I was thinking about going up to a 20in. wheel instead of the 19in. I have.

If I go with a Winter tire, I probably go with the Toyo Observe in the 19in. size and then go to the Toyo Proxes ST II in the 20in. size in the Spring.

I hate these kind of decisions, not to mention the money involved.
