Looking to get a set of RS4 wheels for my Touareg2. These are the ones:
ACHTUNING RS4

Need some suggestions on tire sizes.
I dont want to ride on rubber bands, i like a bit of sidewall for added ride comfort and also wheel protection.

What size would you suggest. Currently running stock suspension. I can foresee a set of H&R Spring in the future, but not right now.

Thanks for the help

Stock size, 275/40-20. Not understanding why people insist on using improper size tires????

Ride comfort is much more a matter of tire construction than the 13mm difference in sidewall height.

If you want more sidewall go with a smaller diameter rim, it's really that simple.

I have to agree with this. Although you may not feel a difference with the 275/45 20s, the recommended tire is 275/40 20s.

The place you linked to are crazy expensive for aftermarket (who knows where they are built) rims.
If you're going with price alone, maybe going with a cheaper knock off would make sense, however Achtung makes high quality wheels. Achtung was bought by Hartmann wheels which in my opinion (and many others) make some of the best aftermarket quality wheels for VW and Audi.

I'm facing this decision right now... I have 19" Terra's... hate the Toyo's i have on them (275/45-19) I put some 20" Q7 wheels on with some Yoko Avid 175/45-20's and the ride is AMAZING... love it! Of course i ended up not liking the look of the wheels... so i either find a different 19 tire (from the VERY short list) or purchase a different 20" wheel (either RS4 type or the Cayenne GTS wheels.) I would REALLY like to stick with the 19" Terra's.. but i just hate my choices on tires. I am thinking of trying 285/45-19's.. but most are load rated at 107xl and with the V10 and towing my 23 ft boat i don't want to push it. The Toyo's are rated at 108xl and they simply can't handle my Toaureg. At the proper PSI they look and drive like they are flat... with more air (47-48PSI) they ride like crap because they are so hard.

I haven't been here long enough to know whether the majority here prefer the 275/45 and it's certainly an option but not for me.

I'm not an offroader, I'm a performance car guy so it's obvious I don't get it. I do agree that the 19" size is a wasteland for good tires. 20 and 18 are the sweat spots for great tires.

Understood and you are very correct in saying 275/40 is the correct size, I'm just sharing the rationale for choosing a non stock size. Everyone should chose what's best for their own driving reality.

mjw930, Hartmann wheels are built in Germany. It's even stamped on the inside of the mag. That is the price premium you are paying. ;)
It's almost like saying that they are real RS4 wheels, except they are made to fit your Egg, and most importantly, they take into account your vehicles 5500lB weight. ;)

Then there is the finish. Very tough. Very OEM. Also very perty ;)

One thing I have learned in life, especially when it comes to mags. You get what you pay for ;)

@ the OP:
I use 275/40/20 on my 20X9 mags. But you specifically wrote in your opener that you "like a bit of sidewall for added ride comfort and also wheel protection." Given also that you have a steelie suspension that you wish to lower with H&R down the line, your best and safest bet is to follow the crowd here ;)

My case is different, I know what I want for my given application and very satisfied with it ;)

If that's the case then I stand corrected. The "Hartmann" wheels I looked at did not have "Germany" stamped anywhere on them so perhaps they were misrepresented to me.

I still think it's too much for knockoffs. Anyone know what factory wheels go for?

Question for everyone running 275/40r20.... what's the loadrating on your tires? All the tires i see are rated at 106 XL... I was told my V10 calls for 108 or higher. 275/45-20's on the other hand are 110.

I just pulled the trigger on a set of 275/45r19 Conti DWS ... I am going to stick with my stock 19" Terra's for now... give these tires a shot. I'd love to pick up a set of the new 2011 Touareg 20" wheels down the road... they look sweet!
