Hi there, I new to the Touareg form. I bought an '07 plate 2.5 TDI three months ago and it has developed a thumping noise (which you can feel through the arm rest) when I accelerate.

Any idea's what the problem may be.

Thanks

Ian

Driveshaft support bearing

Sounds like your driveshaft support bearing went bad. Mine did the same thing couple weeks ago. Check out vertex auto for a custom aftermarket support bearing you can easily install youself in about one hour for $500. Dealer quoted me $1700 to fix.

No question about what you describe - it is the drive shaft centre bearing that has failed.

You may damage the very expensive transmission if you run it.

Get it fixed ASAP.

LOADS of threads on here about it.

Here in the UK this appears to of happened to me last evening :(

I have looked at the part above and video of the fitting.

This fix obviously assumes the bearing is intact.
Does the bearing usually survive this event?

Has anyone here used this kit?

I would obviously have to import this kit.

Thanks in advance

You can have a new bearing fitted for about ÂŁ250 all in by several places in the UK within 48 hours.

Go and post on www.mytreg.com with your location and someone should be able to point you in the right direction.

Vertex, by comparison, is more expensive and you could have the car off the road for longer whilst you wait.

Mine failed a while back and I was keen to use the vertex carrier but my bearing condition was not a long term option so I replaced the whole bearing assembly.
Now if you fitted a new bearing and intended to keep it for a long time throw the vertex carrier over the new bearing that would be the ultimate.
