Hello, my 2005 V8 Touareg is confusing me....my temperature gauge keeps going up to over 200, more like 240, but the confusing part is that it only happens at high speeds and when going up hills. It acutally goes back down to 200 while sitting in traffic or slower speeds. Can someone give me some advice on what to do....

1. Login via a VAG-COM and see if the temp is the same there.
2. Check coolant level in the reservoir should be between the low/high depending on engine temp.
3. If everything is fine and still have issues. Replace the temp sensor and thermostat.

Hi
Could be a faulty sensor
Doubt a faulty thermo
Possibly partially blocked radiator.
When you drive harder or faster the engine makes more power hence more heat compared to when idling.
Change your thermo and sensor first though as thats easier than the radiator, but if that doesn't fix it do the radiator and check your water pump.

But if the thermostat has a tendency to get stuck open (spring failing) then the temp would go down.

Ok...so I talked with my foreign auto mechanic....he wanted me to ask if anyone knows if the 05 touareg v8 has a plastic or metal impeller....anyone know, I called my local vw dealer and they had no clue what I was talking about....hense, why I don't take it there...

I hesitate to question Krakonosh! But I think VW has used both.

I remember an advert last year for new upgraded Touareg water pumps proclaiming the wonder of metal impellers over crappy plastic. [Okay, so they worded it a bit differently!]

Wasn't this the problem a while back with plastic impellers becoming brittle and then a cold spell finishing them off?

I think nooby is correct...I remember reading about some VW's that had plastic impellers and they became brittle and broke...I do not know if they were ever used in Touaregs though.
