its kind of hard to figure out if someone is talking about a T1 OR A T2.most every other car/ truck site organizes by generations. on this site its all lumped it one and getting specific info on a t2 as apposed to a t1 is hard to do..or at least make a section for T2s.

There really isn't that much difference between a T1 and T2, besides most of the mechanical changes seen with the T2 were present in the last of the T1s..the T1/T2 designation is a marketing one and not a generational change.

there are alot of differences in the two models.enough to make 2 of each section.or least of mods, running gear and things that may pertain....stuff written about a t1 may not work for a t2 and vice versa..

oh, i think your wrong,im pretty sure there are 2 generations of touareg.
and only 2300 different parts in the T2.

From all the research I did when buying my Touareg I believe "nickm" is correct. The T1/T2 switch was more a mid-lifespan refresh than a generational change. The 2300 different parts was more of a marketing tool than a real indicator of major design changes. While I don't believe we need separate T1/T2 sections, I do think that it is helpful to know what year, engine model, Touareg people are discussing since there were changes year to year.

Outside of the USA, there is no such thing as a Touareg 2. It is just a Touareg with a facelift. This was just marketing by VWOA where the original Touareg had lots of teething problems.

2300 is a big number, but realize that something like a simple headlight can have over 100 components, you quickly realize that 2300 is a number made up by marketing and is not reflective of significant design change.

The mechanical changes in the "t2" showed up in the '07 "T1" with the FSI engines, servotronic steering, and some of the other subsystems.

The main T2 differences are a new set of headlights, fenders, hood, grille, tailights, dash cluster, seats and some electronic features on the very top end models.

I still think it's difficult to figure out if someone is talking about a t1 or t2.. maybe an option when your posting that distinguishes the thread about t1 or t2.
for example i was looking for a euro dash bin, and was going to buy one from a member and found out the T1 bin wont fit a t2.. i would have been s.o.l. with a $200 piece of plastic.. as of now, and maybe its since I'm new but I still think it very tough to find specific info and when you find out info you don't know it it pertains to you..
