Just got my Touareg last week and I love it! Although the sound system is missing just a little something extra. Anyone know how to install a subwoofer to the existing sound system? I have a local radio shop guy that will do it if he knew how :confused2: .....Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've read a number of people that think they don't have enough low-end sound in their SSII. In mine, it thumps pretty well. I compared the sound output (not with a meter, just with my ears, which are pretty damn good) to my home stereo, which has two 1,000 watt 15 inch subs attached and can (and do!) go down to 15Hz. At least in my Toaureg, the sound reproduction is VERY decent. I wonder if the sound system in some people's trucks is messed up.

Now, I'm not saying you can hear me coming from a mile away, but it definitely rattles inside the truck if you're playing some thumping tunes.

P.S. Excellent color choice. :)

I have the identical Treg- but with 18" wheels, also just bought it, and also think the enitire rear speaker systems sounds pretty weakjavascript:emoticon(':bored:') . If you fade it back, its bad enough to think that something IS wrong. Front speakers do thump, sound very very good, but the back, and thus the whole feel of the car is lacking something. Hope someone answers your question about Subwoofer install- very interested.

BTW, are the 19" wheel a big difference? Did you get the car with them, or upgrade?

Thanks! :bored:

Same with me- I think the sound system needs a boost and I have the same setup as you. Any idea how to change the FM station reception from american to Euro?
Depends on which radio you have. The nav radio can be changed with a VAGCOM or dealer computer. The standard radio comes in two versions, North American Delco made in Mexico and rest of world (not sure who makes it). If you have the standard radio, you have to buy a new one to get the FM 0.1 frequency adjustment and the other Euro features (traffic info, etc.).

REAR SPEAKER PROBLEM

For everyone that believes the performance of the rear speakers in their tregs is substandard:

Please call VWOA at 1-800-822-8987 and let them know.

I called yesterday. I was basically told that no one is complaining so they have no plan/solution. I was told that they track all these complaints in their computer and if they get enough complaints, they will look into it. I have read a large number of posts in clubtouareg and on vwvortex, but have not seen anything about anyone actually calling to complain. If we all call, MAYBE they will pay attention and come up with a fix.
My opinion is that anyone who pays what we did for our vehicles deserves a stereo better than some I've heard in rental cars. The Mach 460 in a Ford Mustang with only 8 speakers simply blows away the (NAV) system in my V-10. For all the amazing things VW did with the treg from a technical side, they seem to have completely ignored the stereos. Bad move if they want to stay in this "high end" market.
I have thought of doing my own upgrade, but am worried about the risk that if I install (or have installed) an amp or something that blows out the computer that the NAV unit interfaces with, I'd be stuck with a non-warrantee issue that would probably cost well over $1000 to fix (not including the cost of the upgrade parts). I even asked if VWOA can provide a list of compatible equipment that would be safer to use if I did the upgrade myself, but they would not do that either.
PLEASE CALL. Maybe we can get them to recognize the problem and come up with a reasonable upgrade.

Subwoofer

VW has a Technical Bulletin out for the problem:

Subject: Radio, Insufficient Bass Output
Model(s): Touareg
Group: 91
Number: 04–05
Date: May 10, 2004

2004 > 7L94D015720

Go and check out a 2005 with the same model radio as you have.
