Hey all!

Tomorrow I pick up my first Touareg--a used 2005 V8 (still under warranty) in metallic green and tan. YAHOO!

The car has nav and premium sound, but no air suspension and now tow package.

For all you experts:

1) I'll be doing a lot of towing. I see on the Tregcentral website two soutions. The first is a CURT hitch--with accessories approximately $400. The second is a Touareg towing kit for $705. Question--does my car have towing wiring now? And if so, will the $705 (oem?) kit work better or offer more functionality than the less expensive CURT hitch???

2) I am an ipod junkie. Any reccommendations as to which ipod kit gives the best integration with my factory radio??

Thank you all for offering new kid advice. Damn--my flats boat is gonna look mighty cool cruising The Lower Florida Keys behing my new Touareg!!

I don't have the oem Hitch and I had hard time to install my 7pin plugg beside the hitch because of the 2 loop on the hitch where you hang the safety chain of the trailer. I think that it is easier with the oem hitch. Also depending of what you plan to tow, you may need a brake assist module, I had to run this cable from the break module through the 7 pin plugg. don't know about the oem but I think that it come only with a 4pin adapter.

Also the Curt Hitch is a class 3 hitch and only rated to 6000pound, the treg can tow 7716pounds. Then i supposed that the oem hitch can handle the 7716pounds, if not it is kind of weird, in my case my trailler is only 4000pound then it is not an issue.

Re: Newbie questions.

Thanks to both of you who responded to my first posting--especially jfmador, whose hitch suggestions were most helpful.

Congrats on the new wheels, and welcome to the club!

We've had some discussions on here about hitches, you may want to check the Towing forum on here for the whole hubbub. But, I personally prefer and recommend the OEM hitch and wiring harness. No wire hacking, just plug, play, and probably recode the module. The higher tow rating is an added bonus for most, but a necessity if you're pulling a heavy trailer.

You may want to check out some of the discussions regarding weight-distributing hitches as well.

iPod-wise, I'm using a BlitzSafe Auxiliary adapter. It doesn't allow integration into the stereo, it simply feeds audio only into it in place of the CD Changer. You control the iPod on the iPod, not through the stereo, so it's not really "integrated" into it, just feeding audio into it.

Hope this helps,
Matt

I bought the OEM from "VW Parts" - "Volkswagen Parts" - Parts and Accessories Catalog. it is $654 for the complete kit. OEM is a simple way to go, it is plug and play. The other systems will require some additional work to get it to work, thus taking away any possible savings.

As for the iPod kit, I again went with the OEM kit, any problems with this kit will still give you coverage on your very expensive OEM Nav unit. This unit replaces the CD changer and is very easy to use.

Welcome to forum.
