The battery in my V6 is starting to not hold its charge so before catastrophe strikes during 60 below or something, just wanted to know if there's anything other than Varta that folks recommend or have used. TIA

OEM batteries seem to be best from the original factory installation, but consequent OEM batteries down the line used to replace the original mother ship installed battery, for some odd reason never seem to live up to expectations.

At replacement time, I seldom buy other than InterState. I've owned a total of 11 diesels over the years (cars/tractors), and have found them more robust than other brands I've tried. Walmart batteries are ok for my low compression gasoline engines, but I want InterState for my high compression engines and my diesels.

@ grohgreg: I have been very unimpressed with interstate deep cycles in my trailer. They failed pretty quickly just past the warranty period. This has been my impression with past interstates as well. Just my 2 cents.

I need something that will stand up to cold... and yes, the OEM replacement is seldom as good which is why I decided to post a new now that a few folks have changed theirs.

So Wally-world is the place to go for a Varta/whatever then?

This battery has caught my eye. I don't know if you are close to a Sears though. I feel that it would last longer then the Walmart specials I have used in the past.

I’ve been playing around with many brands of batteries for many years – starting batteries for cars, starting batteries for boats, deep-cycle marine batteries for trolling motors, electronic equipment backup batteries and whatever else. I’ve come to a conclusion that there is no difference between batteries of known brands. I do not look anymore for that magic "battery that would last 3 times longer than conventional batteries”. Per my experience, such claim has never been proven in real life with any of the advanced technology batteries that one pays double or triple price for. I simply replace batteries using 4-years interval preventive maintenance schedule as it is commonly adopted by the industry standards. Sam’s Club is a place where I’m buying my batteries - Energizer brand. The Energizer 49, CCA850 should work for Touareg 2008 V8…
