Have looked on the forum but haven't seen this issue raised before.

I'm having problems with my electric rear vision mirrors as they work OK in going side to side but do not move up and down when selected via the rotary console switch.
I recently replaced the motors with a set of working units which appeared to work when replaced (can't recall if I tested the up/down function but probably did) but not now. I find it quite strange that both mirrors have the same issue which points not to be an installation problem.
There was some discussion on an old tread regarding mirrors sync, tested mine but could't get any of that to work.

Any suggestions?

Tony,
One of mine did the exact same behaviour six months ago. Turned out to be a failed mirror motor. Each unit has two simple motors one for the "x" axis and one for the "y" axis. You will find one has burnt out or has gone open-circuit. Replacements are, as usual, bloody costly from VW, so try EBay. They can't be readily repaired.

Mine was working perfectly until I disturbed it, and it suddenly died. Considering both are unhappy could it be related to mirror syncronisation....?

Kind regards
Stu.....

Do you hear the motor working also on the problematic side? Does the mirror not move at all, or does it have a limited working/move range (like you can slightly adjust it, but then it stops)?

I had a problem with my driver's side mirror not folding up properly (only probably up to 1/3 way) in 8 out of 10 times. Regular and directed use of a pressure washer around the mirror assembly has gradually improved the situation, and after a while it worked again perfectly (ie. folding up every time). I figured dirt or sand got somehow into the mechanism, and hindered it in working properly, until it was flushed out.

Thanks Stu,

Need to know more about this Syncronisation........as I said I did follow a tread about this but I had no sucess when I attempted to Sync (or Unsync), can you point me somewhere with further details so I can rule this in or out?
