This is the place to post all of the things that we are discovering about our awesome Touaregs!

Please add to this anytime you find something, and share it with a photo it if you can.

I bought mine used, and was not shown anything. It has been discovering all of the goodies.

My son discovered the pull-up rear door sunshade! Very cool!

What's your discovery?

Frank...please stay on topic of the thread. Your question has no relevance to Touareg features... If you need help with forum etiquette please feel free to PM any of the moderators.

Post your question as a new thread in the general discussion section and you will very likely get the answer you are looking for.

Not really a "discovery", since the sales guy showed this trick: Where to put the cargo cover w/the rear seats folded?

It snaps into place just behind the now upright rear seating surface, on top of the rear seat backrest...

very cool. J

I was just browsing around and decided to reread all the posts in this thread and came across this one. Wow...I don't have to take that cover out or worry where the hell to put it.

I went to the garage and yanked down the seats just to try it out.
(I'm such a DORK)

Too COOL!!!

I have the James Bond edition w/ machine guns in the front and a wife ejection passenger seat.

Not a big thing, but I love the ignition that just requires a quick flick of the key and it'll crank until it lights...thankfully only about 2-3 seconds, but still save the ordeal of having to hold the key over:)

I just read about the heated steering wheel and did a search on google to see if my 04 v6 would have it...Apparently they didn't offer it on them.

Also found out about the REST button; it will keep your heating system running while your car is off for about 30 minutes I believe. This seems great if you are about to run into a store or something while it's freezing out. Or I suppose the same during the summer to keep your car cool.

REST ROCKS - I love it......

in my 08, if it is below 39 degrees when I turn the ignition off, the windshield wipers will raise up just a bit. I am assuming this is just in case it snows, it will allow the wipers to have some "wiggle room" to get started. If I am wrong someone please correct me, I am only going off my own non scientific findings.

The heated steering wheel could have come on your V6, but it needed to be with the winter package which included heat rear seats as well as a rear heater. It was not motor specific, just package. You can put the heated wheel on your Treg now if you want, but it is a bit cost prohibitive.

I have only recently discovered that I have "Rest", and rear heated seats.

It's possible that my new-to-me 2005 has the cold weather package. Where would I look for the steering wheel heat thingy? I would reallyreally love it if I had this!

And, I did notice the windshield wipers inched up below 40 degrees. Genius!

Keep the secrets coming!

One of the first things i noted was the ability to un-lock the car without having to take the key out of my pocket... The key, depending on system settings will allow you to open any door or a combination of doors.

The ESP thing is pretty cool too. I held the button for 5 minutes and thought about coffee. When i got back to the house the wife had just made some and it was ready. These Toe-rags are awesome.

Yesterday my son and I played with the "Rest" while running errands yesterday. WooHoo! Love it!

Also, I have a secret that needs to be answered. When I first bought my Touareg in July, the stereo (non Dynaudio darn it) would display a scrolling artist/song. Now, it does not. Did I do something, or is it the radio stations?

And, I have a, maybe not so, secret. My New Beetles all had this.....

Holes for your headrests!

The seat bottom in the up position has holes for each rear headrest, so they won't need to roll around when you need more room. Love this!

with the song/artist scroll.. it tends to go off..they aren't even supposed to be equipt with this but we got it anyways :) to reset it you have to pull the fuse for the radio on the passenger fuse box..look for the correct fuse in the book I cant remember which it is :) I need to do mine again

OK, just got my 2006 Vg t-reg last week and still got the new owner butterflies 5 days later!

  • Scrolling song/artist. How is that done?
  • Tiptronic shifting. Kind of gimmicky for this class of car, I played with it for 5 minutes then never touched it again. Not sure if I'll ever see use for it. VW should never have went with this, in my opinion it's just another expensive maintenance item to worry about
  • Low/Hi gearing. May be useful for slippery ramps with my boat
  • Sunroof, didn't notice it till after driving off the lot.
  • The AC for this car is awesome, does a superb job, I leave mine in auto and forget it. Can't wait to see how it works with our 95F florida summer.

I will say though, that after going through the manual the day after I bought it, I was a wee bit disappointed as I searched for multiple features then I realized they weren't there, since mine is a base model (the manual is not clear on this with several features such as variable suspension). No big deal, I'm happy as a clam with what I got! :)

I must be the only one that likes Tip. I use it quite a bit on the highway for passing and especially when I am going up the canyons around here. It is fun to drop it down a few gears and blow by guys in their big PU's and SUV's. They are barely making it up the canyon due to them not having anymore gear to use.

I am not sure you would even need Low range to pull your boat out of the water. Hi works pretty good and I have used it offroad at places I should have probably used low.

The scrolling song and station thing is not really supported, but you can get it by pulling the one fuse. The other thing you need to have is stations in your area that are broadcasting the info to even see it.

Scrolling song/station info is called RDS, as in Radio Data System. There is a really old thread on here (from 2004, I think) that details which fuse to pull to re-enable RDS capabilities.

As far as cool "easter egg" features, the air-conditioned/cooled glovebox comes in handy for keeping a sub cool while on the trail. Its actually shaped to chill a bottle of fermented grape juice, but it works for other things as well.

Also - "scrolling" can be enabled/disabled in the base sound system...

yeah when I 1st got the car didn't touch the tip but once..then in the last 2 weeks we started using it quite a bit to get the car going and just having fun with the power..then my crankshaft positioning sensor went out and even if they aren't connected it kinda keeps me from messing with anything but D...as for sport I never really found a use for it except to burn more gas?

what are the best situations to use sport and Tip?
I guess tip for passing yes..I've done that..what else? **I don't have a hitch or plan on towing** as for sport I've only heard people say to use it for stoplights.. what else?

Most times it stays in D.

If I am really pushing it through traffic and need to make up some time, I drop it into S mode...it "blips" rpms on downshifting and holds gears longer on upshifting....helpful when you need to scoot through traffic. As an added bonus you can watch your gas gauge move counter-clockwise :+)

I use tip to control engine rpms a) when I am towing, b) when I am driving in really crappy weather (and want to keep the engine "on cam"), or c) when I want to let it rip on backroads.

I use it more with my kids' Audi 1.8 quattro wagon for reasons b and c. Per this thread, one of the fun things about Touareg is using the technologies available to you. I think Tiptronic is one feature you'd miss not having if it weren't included.

Back on thread, I used both driver sunvisors yesterday...a very elegant design in how the secondary visor pivots around the mount point for the primary visor.

I've hardly ever used tiptronic or S modes...I use my paddles shifters when towing or when in the mood to go quicker than normal. S is just annoying, it holds onto gears too long (especially off throttle). Tip is awkward to use IMO....personally I wish they'd just get rid of the huge baseball bat of a shifter and put in something smaller and slicker in its place.
