RNS 510 factory bluetooth wiring.

I recently purchased a 9w7 bluetooth module and wiring harness for my 2009 with navigation. Does anybody have any pictures or information as to how to wire up the harness to the RNS 510 unit?

I installed one recently in mine Treg so I can try to help. Here's my thread. I also found this thread and this thread incredibly useful when I was installing mine.

There are 7 wires that connect to the 12 pin modular plug "C" on the RNS-510. Hopefully you already have the modular plug. I bought my wiring harness from Kufatec and there was no plug so I had to get one elsewhere. The wires were all labeled on my harness and there was a pinout diagram on the RNS510 so it was pretty straightforward to put them in the right spots on the modular plug. Mute was the only one that was labeled oddly, with some German word that ended in stumm (which means mute).

Then, there are 2 wires labeled CAN+ and CAN-. I very partially stripped the CAN+ and CAN- wires coming out of the RNS510 (pins 9 & 10 on the big 16 pin modular plug) and soldered them together.

Then, there are 2 more wires that weren't labeled on mine that that are ground and +12V. I partially stripped the +12V & ground wires coming out of the RNS510 (pins 12 & 15 on the big 16 pin modular plug) and solder those wires in.

When I stripped the existing wires I used a razor blade and very carefully removed just the insulation from the wire being careful not to break any of the actual wire strands. Just go slowly and you can do it. Then I stripped the end of the wire I was attaching, wrapped it around the bare section of the target wire, and soldered them together. I used good electrical tape to wrap the spliced section but probably heat shrink tubing would be better.

Finally, I had to get some microphone wire and run it from the RNS510 (pins 1 & 7 of the 12 pin modular plug C) under the dash, up the driver's side A pillar and over to the overhead. There was already a microphone in my Treg (2008 T2) so I used that microphone. I bought a modular plug end and the correct terminals so that I could just plug it in. If you don't feel like doing that, you could just cut the plug off of the microphone and splice or solder them together.

I had a hard time finding a good location for the 9W7 module itself. I ended up wrapping it in foam and zip-tie-ing it up under the driver's side footwell vertically just to the right of the parking brake pedal.

I enabled the Telephone (#77) in the CAN Gateway module (#19), and everything seems to work fine. Note that I do still get a "module coded incorrectly" error on my CAN Gateway module and VCDS can't talk to the telephone module. I'm not sure why I get the errors but it all works. I'm going to have the dealer install the steering wheel button panel with the phone buttons and hopefully they can tell me what's going on with the coding errors.

Good luck!

Thanks for the good info. The wiring harness I have does have a green module already wired up. I just have to wire up CAN +, CAN -, Pos and Neg leads. The back of my radio already has wiring leading from the microphone outputs (1 and 7 on the green module). Does that mean the microphone ready to go as is?

It sounds to me like you have 2 green modular plugs (1 on the wiring harness and 1 already in the RNS510 with the microphone wires). If that's the case, you're going to have have to merge the wiring together. Those terminals are pretty easy to pop out with a little screwdriver. Just move them one at a time and you shouldn't mix anything up.

After that I think you'll just need to find power and ground, splice into the CAN bus and enable the telephone module in VCDS.

I'd start there and see if it works. :)

I finally got my bluetooth installed! I landed up splicing in the four wires (Can +, Can -, positive, ground) into the main radio harness and plugging in the new green module bluetooth harness. My car already had the microphone built in, so I transferred those wires to the new green module. I installed the 9w7 module inside the glove box for easy access.

It is a known problem with bluetooth via the RNS510 and (possibly) in conjunction with 9W7 module. There is a solution that I was aware of back in the day - required some customising of the pins on the quadlock connector - I think. I will search later and see if I can find it.
What Bluetooth module is your unit using (if you know)
Edit - found it:
You need 2 VW repair wires and just cut them in half, solder w/your own extension wire in the middle, and plug them into the existing connector. Connect pin 5 to pin 5 and pin 11 on the radio to pin 4 on the bluetooth.
12 pin connector (6×2 rows) – green- 3B7 035 447 B (3B7035447B) – telephone end
Repair Wire 0.5mm – 000 979 009 (000979009)
pin 5 – telephone audio input signal left negative
pin 11 – Telephone audio input signal left, positive
54 pin connector (18×3 rows) – blue- 4E0 972 144 (4E0972144)
Repair Wire 0.5mm – 000 979 010E (000979010E)
pin 4 - Audio LF Signal out +
pin 5 - Audio LF Signal Out –
