R50 owners, where are you?

Boys and girls, how many R50s do you think were sold in Australia? My guess was around 200-300 but I was wrong. I am in the process of finding out how many were sold world wide as well just because I'd like to know.
I can tell you that Tassie and SA had very lonely R50s as only 1 was sold in each of those states.
Let's hear it, how many do you reckon? John.

Ha! This is serendipity. When I stopped to pick up my newspaper here in the UK this morning, I came out of the shop to find a very nice 2009, black, R50 parked on the other side of the road - only the second one I think I've seen.

The owner and I chatted for a bit.

Seems he's had the car from new and it's one of only 12 sent to the UK.

His R50 has now done 100,000 miles and only needed scheduled services and sets of new tyres - no breakdowns or repairs of any kind.

The guy doesn't like the T3 and the R50 is staying!

Noob I have found my R50 very reliable , more so than my first V10 which had lots of niggles. I started to get keen on replacing it with an R-Line , but don't think the R-Line adds much so am going to hang about and have a look and drive of the new RR Sport. I think the R50 is just a cool car and I still enjoy the drive every time I jump in.

John nice of you to say to low but how about a percentage ?

Interesting - that R50 owner had tried the brand new Range Rover Sport for a couple days and simply handed the key back in with a "No thank you."!

He'd tried the T3 V8 Tdi too - didn't like the handling, the steering and pretty much everything else - the list was too long!

That one must be a mad british cousin of Jeremy Clarkson.

Don't think so - he didn't have frizzy hair!

I think he was disappointed that, for him, there wasn't a big enough seachange between the development of the cars to grab his interest.

I'm in Berkshire, 40 miles west of London, by The Thames, but today's meeting was even further west, albeit still in Berkshire as it's a very long thin county running east-west [or west-east!].

Why is your daughter here? World trip?

Yes she is on the "travel after Uni" thing .She is a graphic designer but wants to have a job where she meets locals and doesn't have too much responsibility until she knows the lie of the land. She has worked in design for a couple of years and wanted to do the trip before settling down. I visited the UK for the first time about 2 months ago. Didn't see all that much as only had 8 days there. Did drive up to York and back via country roads. Got to say one pound sixty a litre is up there in fuel pricing.

8 days in the UK isn't much even for our little island - still York is very nice.

I hope your daughter is having a good time. She's certainly in one of the more trendy spots!

Any trouble, ping me a PM if you don't have family/friend contacts here.

One thing for sure they are one of the best looking 4WD's around. The air dams and flares set them off and make the car look quite tough and purposeful. In the looks department I find the R50 and the X6 my favourites , the R50 wins out on functionality. If VW could bring out another R50 with the 8 speed box , V8 diesel , low rang with spare wheel I'd be a customer straight up.

Kev, Bails was too low so that makes your guess way too low. Still a rare bread anyway. Looks wise, yep, I sort of agree, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I do have a soft spot for Biscay Blue and when I first saw one at night in a show room I was fascinated with it. Now having owned one for 4 1/2 years the pleasure of driving it just doesn't go away. They are the most amazing 'all purpose ' vehicle I have ever come across. Every time my wife comes back from driving it, she seems to have a smile on her face too. As I said, damn addictive. John

John...it's the same with our R32. I'm almost inclined to sell it, because 5 registrations/insurances for 2 people (3 cars, caravan, m'bike) is getting a bit tight. But she won't hear of it.....so I guess she's gonna have to contribute to ease the pain. In some form or another. :-k :-lll

Well I am one to agree one of he best if not the best looking 4WD around. I think the purposeful look of the R50 is second to none. One thing the R-Line doesn't have in my opinion is the same butch looks of the R50.

Yes the Black wheels all cracked, I went to arbitration over them ! The wheels I have now I don't like but they were the only ones the right size. The wheel importer tried to tell me that using them off road is not what they are designed for, I only drove on the beach. I did post the whole story some time back.

Answer on how may R50's there are

Hi all. Just stumbled across this thread. What is the actual answer of how many there are. I also own a 2008 R50. Best thing i've owned. I had the 2004 V10 and traded up and never looked back although the original V10 sounded better than this one I think due to the DPF.

I have no idea but could it be as low as 2000. I know they would not be that popular in Europe due to high fuel costs, I did not see one in my recent 2 months in Europe.

I think 1,900 was the total number of V10s produced in the first 3 years of that model's life so the number of R50s would be but a small percentage.

Cool video of the R50 doing a Power Lap with The Stig behind the wheel.

And there were only 920 ever made so if you have one it may one day be a collectors item ??
