I heard the new V6 TDI runs very high boost stock which is where the 400+ TQ number comes from. :)

David
This makes sense...aside from the newer CRD technology vs the V10s PD technology, the 5.0L V10 makes 36% more torque than the V6 despite having 66% larger displacement...that power has to come from somewhere!

The idea of a 100hp/liter diesel is somewhat intimidating though..I wonder what the long term longevity of a V6 TDI boosted to nearly 300hp would be?

That said I'd LOVE the idea of getting 300hp out of it (if its reality)

I wouldn't bother - no value in the $'s they want. Try this site - it delivers the power and is cheaper and I've fitted one to mine. Also takes minutes to remove from the harness if you need to send Treg in for service/warranty:

Just a note that VW 3.0 TDI's come in more than one power output, so makes sure you are very specific. These guys are very good with email and support and you will get the support after you install.

Good engineering practice = Keep it simple and standard. The chip fulfils that for me, not an ECU flash update.
Problem is I am seeing the same torque discrepancies from this sight I was seeing on Upsolute. The American V6 TDI is 225HP 406 lb.ft.. There's a 225 HP version here but the torque numbers don't jive converted from 450nm. Should be a 165kW 550 nm version = 225 HP 406 lb.ft. shouldn't there?

I think what you're seeing is the torque numbers from an older ECU. The ECU version for the 3.0 TDI sold in North America is ECU EDC 17 (406 lb/ft) while EDC 16 is an older ECU version and produces 369lb/ft. I'm not sure if this Bluemotion engine with ECU EDC 16 was sold in the UK or OZ but it was not sold in the US or Canada.

Here's the email from MTM, they offer the same performance from a diesel tuning box:
Hi Josh,

Yes we can perform the update. *The 300 HP is a flash where we reprogram
the ECU directly.

We either flash the ECU from the OBDII port below the steering wheel or we
might have to open the ECU to reprogram it.

My in-laws are from Ottawa and I visit them from time to time. *So, either
you drive here or I can call you when I go to Ottawa.

The cost of the upgrade is 1000 CAD + taxes.

I would need to get the ECU version of the vehicle. *It would allow me to
prepare for the work and prevent that you have to come to Montreal twice.
Is it an information you can get me? *(e.g. from a VAG-com tool)

Based on this input, I would be in a position to know what approach we can
take (the OBDII port approach or opening the ECU).

Mind you there is also the M-Cantronic approach that could be an option.
However, it is a little bit more expensive (1800 CAD + taxes) but it can be
removed without leaving any traces.

Regards,

Kind of a nice option as I would think the box would be transferable to other diesel cars if I ever sold the Treg.

At least you got a reply from a MTM tuner... I sent one to the US distributor (Hoppen Motorsport) and never received a reply... maybe I can just order from the Canadian shop? ;) LOL

Here in the UK we have plenty of tuning people who remap the engine via the diagnostic port without disturbing ECUs as that went out several years ago.

They can remap for power or better fuel consumption, or something in between according to the car owner's needs.

Prices range from GBÂŁ300 to GBÂŁ500 which is about US$450 to US$750.

I've never heard of anyone having problems with 300 bhp coming out of their 3.0.

All the ECU's are flash now in the US as well. The only reason you ever have to send the ECU out is if there is a complication getting through the OBD port and having their files encrypted such as on new cars. There is always time after new cars come out until they are able to be flashed in car.

When looking at the HP values, on these sites, you have to ADD 15 HP. Most of the site are non-US sites. The US emmisions equipment reduces the HP by 15, while the torque remains the same... So for my V6 TDI, my stated spec would be 225HP/550NM but when lookign on non US sites for chip tuning the spec would be 240HP/550NM...

I have just had my 2007 v6 re flashed here in NZ a couple of days ago.
$1300 NZ dollars done for me on a Saturday. Great service! Opened up just to do my car.
It took about 4 hours all up. This involved a number of runs on the dyno to check how it performed. They tunned it back a little as it was a little savage.
It added 41 kw at the wheels. Works out at 280 HP or 210kw at the motor i think if my math is right.
Only problem that I saw was the transmission doing the odd bunny hop on the dyno. This was cause by one of the tyres loosing traction on the dyno causing the traction control to kick in. Acceleration was impressive.
Fantastic results so far. It reminds me alot of a driving a v8 Holden, ie when you pass someone the speed gets up to 130km before you even get past them.
Have to watch this as the cops would not be impressed!

Doing a good tune is one thing but to have a great tune done the car really needs to be run on a dyno.
It is also important that the motor is checked for any error codes before anything is done. The tuners will do this, should do this.
The guys that did mine are going to do a audi Q7 V12 in a few weeks. Now that would be interesting to see. ;)

Do you mind me asking who you used ?
