Had my first issue with my 09 TDI last night.
I left the US Open championship here in Bethesda MD and was driving about 75 MPH on the highway. Coolant temperature and oil temperature were staying right in the middle as they always have the last 2 years I've had this car.
All of a sudden, yellow lights on the MFI flash "Oil Temperature too high - Limited to 2500 RPM" as well as a yellow "Service Engine Now!" and also the yellow glow plug symbol flashed several times. I immediately pulled over and turned the engine off. I popped the hood and checked the oil level. It was full near MAX. I slowly loosened the oil cap on top of the engine cover and when I took it off, I saw hot steam coming out of this place where you add oil to the engine. Wasn't plumes and plumes of steam or smoke, but I could definitely see hot steam coming out. I waited 10 minutes, screwed the oil cap back on, and drove slowly home. When I restarted the car, no lights on the dash, no warnings, no check engine lights, nothing!
Do i need to be concerned? Will codes be stored from a temporary high oil pressure error like this? Should I rush to the dealer to have them inspect? I drove the car for about half an hour today with no problems. Thanks in advance!
