Had my first issue with my 09 TDI last night.

I left the US Open championship here in Bethesda MD and was driving about 75 MPH on the highway. Coolant temperature and oil temperature were staying right in the middle as they always have the last 2 years I've had this car.

All of a sudden, yellow lights on the MFI flash "Oil Temperature too high - Limited to 2500 RPM" as well as a yellow "Service Engine Now!" and also the yellow glow plug symbol flashed several times. I immediately pulled over and turned the engine off. I popped the hood and checked the oil level. It was full near MAX. I slowly loosened the oil cap on top of the engine cover and when I took it off, I saw hot steam coming out of this place where you add oil to the engine. Wasn't plumes and plumes of steam or smoke, but I could definitely see hot steam coming out. I waited 10 minutes, screwed the oil cap back on, and drove slowly home. When I restarted the car, no lights on the dash, no warnings, no check engine lights, nothing!

Do i need to be concerned? Will codes be stored from a temporary high oil pressure error like this? Should I rush to the dealer to have them inspect? I drove the car for about half an hour today with no problems. Thanks in advance!

Hey Conrad,

How you do'in.....I had something similar happen. I'm in Havre de Grace, MD. I was on 95 doing about 75-80 for about a 30 min. and I got and "engine fault, high oil pressure, stay below 2500rpms, service engine" and the glow plug light was blinking. I pulled off the road and shut her down. Checked everything just like you and all seemed fine. Started it back up and no MIL light or anything. Got back on the highway, but stayed below 2500 rpms around 60 mph and went to Baltimore. Did what we did in Bmore and everything was fine. On the way home, when close to home I punched it to get above 2500 rpms and the same thing happened. Got home and in PARK revved the motor to 2500 rpms (in PARK it doesn't let you rev any higher than 2500) and I got the same engine fault. Drove it all that week and stayed below 2500 rpms and everything was fine. Then took over 2500 rpms and got no error message. I didn't get an error message for over a month, then one day it came back. I finally gave in and took it to VW in Bel Air. When at VW I found out it was still under warranty being that I was under 36000 miles. They found that the high oil pressure sensor was shot. They replace it for free. They said they never heard of that warning before, but it did store a fault code and they read it. They had to order the part and it took a day for them to fix it. Once I got it back I got on 95 and punched it and all was well.

Since they said that it did give a fault code, but they didn't tell me the code I'd imagine if you are able to hook to a VAGcom it should tell you whats up. If its the same as what happened to me it should be a pretty easy fix. Hopefully.

Good Luck,

Zagg
Hope this helps

Same Problem

I had the exect same issue with my 2009 TDI Touareg yesterday. We were returning from Six Flags in Bowie MD on 95 going about 75 MPH when all of a sudden the Engine Oil Pressure is too high flashed on for about 3 second, then the Service Engine now light came on along with the Glow Plug light. I called VW in Woodbridge today and I will drop it off tonight when I get home. It sound like the engine oil pressure sensor is bad from what Have read about on here. Hopefully thats the case and they can fix it PDQ. I really love my Touareg and I really would hate for this to sour my relationship with this vehicle.

this has happened to me 4 times in the last 4 days! does anyone know if a TSB exists so that I'm not hassled by the dealer to re-create the problem in front of them? i'm going to try to ask them to stock the part BEFORE i take the car in to avoid having to bring the car in once for a diagnosis, and again to have the part swapped.

Mine happened in April and again in early May per my earlier thread. At that time there were no TSB's and I had to go through the dealer hassle (prove it/duplicate it). The 2nd time into the dealer (after they sent me home the 1st time with a could not duplicate and a lot of complaining on my part) I drove my Treg into the service bay in a fault condition, and showed them it had been duplicated and they took care of it. When I posted the issue, I had hoped it was a one-off of my bad luck. Appears not so though. I would hope they are at least working on a TSB release or something... Good luck.

Hey Dieselsdad....how you do'in and hope all is well. Since I had my sensor replaced all has been fine. If your still getting a high oil pressure fault/reading it just might be the diaphragm pressure valve on the crankcase ventilator (CCV) is stuck or broken. If the diaphragm that releases the gases or pressure that builds in the CCV doesn't open it will cause pressure to build up in the crankcase. Just a suggestion and something you can check yourself.

Good Luck
