interesting choice..own a patrol on one hand and a Touareg on the other......must be chalk and cheese between them.
am sure you cant fit those tyres on the Touareg anyway...max is about 32 inches.

Yea and there is also a 600hp audi in the garage that you can not see.
Thouse tyres are 35":D

Even less with a TDI due to intercooler vents in the front fender wells which the OP has. I personally would not go much beyond 30.5. That is the diameter I am running and get some rubbing on the fenderwells at slow speed turns.

Don't bother with the Bighorn unless you're a ******* who shouts "Yee har" every time he starts the engine! Leave that tyre to a 4x4 that is a 4x4, as in truck with NO ROAD manners. My son fitted these to his Hilux...really great off-road........total crap on the tar. Suggest you look at a nice set of A/T's that have some versatility and some road grip. BTW - AndrieK, if I recall from Sth Africa, fitted a set of Bighorns on his R5 to a set of 16'. Not his daily runners either.

Moral to post no#1, listen to the missus!

Handy that you can open one of the rear doors on the Patrol [known as a "Fat Boy" in the UK] with the spare wheel still in situ on the other back door. That would appeal to Siberian methinks! Who let the dogs out . . .

Suggestions please;I have just purchased another rim for the MY12 Touareg as a spare. Got a quote for the same tire as on the vehicle (to be included in the rotation) ...ouch - $600.00 (goodyear eagle F1 255 55 18)

2 Q's - Relating to the 2011 model and Australian availability;

1. Is it worth going a bigger tire already and ebay my 4 x worn tires to supplement the purchase. (already run 5k)
2. If so, what will fit in 18" and brand / type for mainly bitumen and some sand driving. (I'm fussy on tire noise too).

Thanks in advance.:D

If you're looking for a high performance and quiet tyre I can highly recommend the Toyo Proxes ST2's.
I have done over 30K on my 255-55/18's, with plenty of thread left, a great tyre in both wet and dry they are also rated as XL (109).

I paid a little over $300 each last year but I see there is an Ebay vendor currently offering these for $200 each....has got to be a good deal!

If you want a slightly higher profile tyre I have a set of unused Pirelli ATR's http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f47/michelin-scorpion-atr-255-60-18-tyres-61256.html
which may be of interest to you.

On this subject, would there be any problemsif i installed 265/65/17 BFG A/T's on my treg?

I run 265's on 18's and I'm happy with them. I'm also on my 2nd set of Hankook rubber products and I now speak highly of them as an all-rounder, especially the A/T Dynapro. Either way, an A/T pattern will work well off the tar than a performance roadie or a crappy H/T pattern.
