New Treg Oil Level Too High?

My new 2013 T3 VR6 has 2600 miles on it. I've had it since New and the oil level sensor says "Please reduce oil amount"

I haven't put any oil in and it's only been back to the dealer for the 30 day checkup. Could thus be a bad sensor or could it have had too much oil since day one?

Could be either take it back and they will drain some and see

The only way you will be 100% sure with no doubt left is to take your vehicule back to the dealer and tell them (don't ask, just tell them) to flush the oĂŻl, put a new filter and fill it with the wright oĂŻl quantity as VW specs. Take a ride and see what your sensors level will show.

My post about the dipstick was to knail down the last subject about the pro's and con's for have or not a dipstick... ;-)

Brought it in to the dealer and they reset the system and now the sensor works just fine. I never got a Warning Light. Only when I went into the Car -Service - button on the screen it said "Please reduce oil level". It had said this even when I checked it with the oil cold before starting. Now that it's been reset, if I check it when cold it says "Oil must be warm for measurement". And when I check it after the oil is warm, it says "Oil level OK". So I'm confident it was just a system error and not too much oil. At least now I have it documented.

PLaying around with VCDS tonight after an oil change...there's a bit more to the oil sensor than just oil level ie: it measures oil quality and a few other parameters.

Not sure that it measures oil quality, in addition to approximate level, that would be quite a feat for the simple 4 level thermal sensor (that it, by all appearances, appears to be)!

It does not display oil quality on the nav screen, but if you get into the software via VCDS and select oil quality it will give you a reading...try it out, its in module 17/adaptation.

ChasVS,
Make sure that the dealer uses the correct indicator on their test dipstick if they did an oil change. The indicator for the gas engine and diesel is very close together and if its not read correctly , you might get the "please reduce oil amount" message. If the oil level is too high this can also have an effect on your cat life, if its left for too long

There was no oil change involved. The oil level check always gave the " Reduce oil level" message even before I started the engine. Only 2700 miles on it. Now after the system reset I get the correct oil check messages. When cold it says "Oil must be warm for accurate measurement". When oil is warm, it says "Oil level OK".

After 50,000 miles on my 2012 Hybrid Touareg, I'm experiencing more or less the same thing. After my 50,000 mile dealer maintenance which included the oil change, the sensor reported the oil level was too high. I immediately took it back and they could not reproduce and said the level was ok. 3 week later I got the same thing consistently. They changed the oil and the problem could not be reproduced. However, 10 minutes after leaving the dealership the sensor reported that it had no oil. I took it back again and they could not reproduce!

Hi ChasVS,

I hope you are right, because:

2017 Treg V6 Gas - Previously I reported the problem I was having with “Reduce Oil Level” messages on the infotainment screen. Two weeks ago Don Valley Volkswagen in Toronto replaced the oil sensor and assured me everything was fine. However, now when I check the oil level, the following message appears every time: “Oil Level OK and the bar chart shows “Max”. This would be good, but this message appears always, that is: When I first get in the vehicle and the engine is cold. When I reach the end of my journey and the engine is warm. And if I select “Service” selected when I am driving.

During the first few months of Treg opwnership, if I checked the oil with the engine cold I would get the message “For an accurate measurement the engine must be warm”. If I tried to check the oil soon after switching off the engine, there would be a message telling me that I should wait two minutes to get an accurate oil measurement, which makes sense. So, do any of you folks know what to try or check now? The dealer is stumped; they keep saying that everything checks out OK and there are no error codes. I have 5,000 miles (8,000 km) to the next oil change and no way to check the oil.

Senecio, look at your invoice. Did the dealer flash a software update?

Thanks for the valid suggestion of not to worry, but I have some good news. After reading the comments posted by members, where they refer to either a sensor or a hood switch as being a likely cause, I popped the hood with a cold engine and received a message informing that an oil reading was not available and that the engine should be warm. Then after driving my Treg, I popped the hood and received the message that the oil level is not available and that I must wait two minutes. So, I guess the problem lies with the hood switch. Many thanks one and all for all your help.
