So T3 Touaregs do not have centering rings? Can someone confirm this, please?
Rather than having solid shoulder on the hub and a precision-fit counter-bore on the wheels to ensure concentric mounting (My 2007 Rabbit has this), the Touareg uses a two or three part (can't recall) spring steel collar protruding from the hub to center the wheel when mounting.

This collar is somewhat thin and is not an uninterrupted circle. It is easy to imagine that it might not ensure perfectly concentric mounting.

That you can put the wheel in place and wiggle it around rather freely supports this. When you push the wheels on the hub before mounting on my Rabbit they are pretty secure already and definitely do not wiggle or move.

HELP!!!!

So today the VW rep calls me up and offers me new tires. She asked me if that would make me happy and since she asked I told her that the only thing that would make me happy is to get my money back. She ofcourse could not approve that and told me she would look into it and call me back...I fully expect her to call me back and say sorry NO....We came to an agreement that I did not want the tires installed at this time and she agreed that it would be a waste of money if it would not satisfy me....My attorney did not call me back yet but I am wondering if I did the right thing or not? Will they now have an excuse to not fix my car further because I refused to new tires? Will that hurt me? I think I can calway say yes to the tires when she calls me back and tells me that they wont return my money...? What do you guys think? Should I just get whatever they are offering and continue to turn the car in one more time so I can qualify for the lemon law? I am done with that thing, at this point I dont even want a fix I just want my money back and emotionally recover from this nightmare of stress and lost work productivity...

Let them do whatever they need to. A car manufacturer is obligated to fix the car, not to give you your money back if you don't like it for whatever reason. Of course they can use it against you and say that you stalled the process. If they want to waste money on new tires, let them, if they want to install all new suspension, let them. Call her back and tell her to do whatever is necessary to fix the problem.

Which make and model of tires has she offered?

She didnt even get to the tire make in the conversation....she just asked if that would make me happy and I replied honestly...based on what i am reading the tires would be Michelins and it would not solve the problem anyways...so far this nightmare has played out exactly as I predicted based on what I read online from others before me....its been 5 days and im stuck driving a lame ass base jetta. I miss my crapy shaky Touareg!!!

I have been sitting here wondering why se asked me if the tires would make me happy or if it would be a waste of money to put them on??? Are they considering a purchase refund??? Its almost as if she was giving me a choice between new tires or something a lot more dramatic but just didnt say it yet....it cant be this easy but maybe they will realize that fair is fair and that the car is defected so instead of fighting the lemon suit (which i have advised them is coming) they would rather just get it over with...

You should really be pushing them to fix the problem not asking them to take the car back. You have to follow the steps. If hey can't fix it then and only then you can proceed with the Lemon Law. No one is going to tell you "here is your $50k, hand over the keys". FOLLOW THE STEPS.

On a bright note, my shakes have disappeared.
Good to hear ! So, do you think it came down to RFB, properly centering the wheel and hand torquing the lugs down in star pattern? I am taking mine in to Reno VW next week and hope I can resolve this issue with the techs there. Also, what tire pressures do you run your new Pirellis?

yes, yes and yes, I think... (see post #55). I was going to re-torque the wheels myself but after a few days shakes have disappeared on their own. I am not sure what made them to go away. I am just hoping they won't be back anytime soon ;)

This ^^^^^

Called her up and she said they will put Michelins on this week and see if that helps...from what i am reading here it will not help but we will see.....
Get less involved...stop focusing on brands of tires and all the other stuff. Just tell them to fix the shake. let them do whatever the hell they want to do. I'd say one thing and one thing only - fix the shake.

If they can't after a number of tries then you can follow the lemon law process.

The odds of the dealership or VW handing you $50K are 0. You aren't returning a defective toaster to walmart... You own the car, they own the warranty liability...let them fulfill their obligation.

Nick --

Thank you. You guys are right and I will do exactly that and what my attorney tells me to do but my integirty and ethics come in the way I guess...i keep trying to do the right thing and for some reason and also keep thinking that they will do what is right and moral but I know better....I will say as little as possible and demand my car stop shaking. They kept trying to convince me that the steering shake and pull to the right is normal "as per car" but that just makes me more angry....I grew up in poverty and became wealthy at 30 and never screwed or left anyone owing anything so this just pisses me off so bad!!
