afs no function check wallet

Hi,
My 07 V10 Tdi just gave me this on dash with flashing bulb after driving on a bad hwy. Several bad parts of road I believe caused damage to drivers side light. Sometimes all bulbs are bad. I then stop get out of vehicle, give light taps to headlight and no more problems. Until the next bad patch in road.
I loaned my father Mr ross-tech so I do not have codes to give.
Has anyone experienced my problem? And if so, any ideas on how to repair without dealer rape?
Thanks

I had that issue and it was the control module on the back of the headlight. When you get your VCDS back it should tell you which headlight is the issue. to prove to myself that it was the issue I swapped modules to opposite sides and fault followed module. Be aware that the modules are LH and RH and it will need to be coded after install (I got a second hand unit) but still working great.
The VCDS scan will even give you the module part number.

The best I can figure is the vehicle communicates with the headlights through the harness. Most problems are resolved by inspecting and repairing any damage to the harness or simply cleaning the connections and reseating the assembly. Rare occasions require component replacement.
pop the lights out and take a look!

All I need to do was to take headlight out. Undo the lock, then slide out a couple inches. You will then need to use a screwdriver to push down on a 2nd lock. Now headlight comes completely out.
Clean contacts on light and harness on vehicle.
Replace headlight and re-lock 1st lock.
No harness was problem. The 1st lock allows movement for corrosion on connectors.
Easy cheap, diy fix. Not worrying about "vehicle (stealing your) wallet.

Hi clubbers,

I have an AFS problem that surfaces only when the headlights are turned ON. From a recent diagnostic, it spit out the following:

01575 Control Switched Off..............................34 Self Leveling Suspension
01310 Level Control System Control Module(J197)...55 Headlight Range
Control

Does anybody have an idea what I should focus on?
Thanx

Hi, guys I do have the same problem too. But when I restart the car it goes off too. Now I have another problem probably related or not i'm not sure but hopefully it is. I'm having my horn hornk automatically. It's like a small honk and then it goes off. Couple of milliseconds I beleive. Do you have any idea what my cause this, please advice thanks.

I have a completely different issue which i have not come across. Started out with the AFS issue and the light on the dash which meant a new right hand headlight being replaced due to a faulty pivot motor. Worked perfectly for a while and all of a sudden the cornering lights stopped working with no lights displaying on the dashboard, it seems like the auto level is not working either despite the headlights doing the up and down part of the startup dance. I scanned it with VCDS and it failed to read the module at all. Next steps for me is to remove and refit in case its a contact issue, after that i will be looking for the controller wherever that is hidden. I have no idea why these give so much trouble on the Touareg when the same design of headlight on the Passat works flawlessly with no issues ever!

Yes i know this is a thread resurrection but its good to have everything in one place for reference.

The AFS is your adaptive headlights

The AFS is your adaptive headlights- that illuminate the corners when you are turning. You can check them out and see if one of the turning lights is out, on the "new body" style Touaregs these lights turn on and off every time you turn a corner- and those kind of bulbs seem, to me, not to be the kind of bulb that takes kindly to being turned on and off repeatedly. Start the vehicle up, put it in drive (facing a wall or garage door) and turn the wheel to the right and to the left. You should see the bulb illuminate when you turn each direction- if it does not, or does in only one direction, you may have a bad bulb.
It's pretty easy to change bulbs if that is the case- there is a small release tab on the back of the headlight assembly (inside the engine compartment) and then you simply push inward on the outside rear edge of the headlight lens- it will "pivot" inward, and then you can slide the whole assembly out, remove the back cover, and replace the bulb.
This is the best info yet! I checked out with headlights on and the left side AFS works but not the right. So the system is working and I only need a bulb on the right. I just had my car in the auto shop and they told me th entire system would need changing at a cost of over $3000. I live in Norway and things here are expensive but that was just too much. I’ll take it back tomorrow and have the bulb changed or just do it myself. Thank you NKTOUAREG

Hi, I have a 2005 Touareg with AFL headlights. About a year ago I started getting the AFL no function vehicle wallet error. Today I took both lights out and interchanged the AFL modules under the headlight. As a result the AFL error dissapeared, but the halogen cornering lights started pointing in opposite direction- steer left; light right, about coding I guess. So I took it apart again and swiched the modules once more- and it is fixed now. I had this error every day for over a year and the fix was about 1h and 0€
