I've had my T'reg for 2 weeks now. In addition to a dead battery 2 days ago + condensation on the windshield, I cannot get the navigation voice to lower its volume during a phonecall. The opposite happens: the navigation voice doubles in volume, giving me a big scare every time it happens. Several people have tried to solve this (also my VW dealer) but without succes. Could this be a software problem or something wrong with the wiring? (both the nav-stereo + the cellphone installation were done by VW) :confused2:

a little off topic but I thought I would repost in the right forum;

Hi all,

Some simple questions (we haven't 'crammed' reading the masters thesis manual yet icon_confused2 )

-Are you limited to 1 stop-over while in route guidance? I'm pretty sure its operator error on our part.

-Nav volume control did not 'hold'. We adjusted here to be at the minimum but no dice. Anyone have any tricks?

-How do you get restaurant POI's to show on the map? We 'found' them two different ways. I'm certain there is a way. In particular, we're wanting to find restaurants near the destination. We checked/selected the box but it gave us restaurants for all of Atlanta.

Thanks,
We love our new ride!!! icon_dance

Wahoo,

Try turning the regular volume control (steering wheel or radio) WHILE the lady is talking. You should get a small insert screen that shows "nav volume" and the nav voice will change rather than the radio volume.

Thanks all for your responses! And yes, 'we' have tried all possible volume settings and combinations of settings in the nav's menu. Nothing works. Turning the volume down (bottom left) WHILE the nav-voice is talking, turns down the volume. Except... first I need a split second to recover from the scare I got (from the loud voice) + when I finally (the other split second later) react to turn the nav-volume down, I am almost always too late, ending up turning down the volume of the cellphone, so that I don't hear anymore what the other person is saying. It feels more like an exersize in the speed of my reaction, than anything else.
PS: And yes, I too am crazy about my car! I compare it with my dog: a Bernese Mountain dog: tough looking on the outside, but with a high level of 'cuddliness' O:)

Anja,
To adjust the nav volume differential;
1) press the music symbol button on the lower left hand side of the radio.
2) press the softkey button that says VOLUME next to it.
3) the next screen should have a NAV MIN. setting. Adjust that to about 2 or 3 bars above minimum.
4) switch to TEL volume.
5) adjust TEL volume to about 5 bars above min.
6) switch to any other setting.
7) now escape to the map or radio.

Now when you get navigation directions, adjust the volume while the directions are being given. You should be able to turn them down quite a bit. If it is still too loud, go back and adjust the NAV MIN setting again even lower.

Hmmm

Thanks, Spockcat, I followed your instructions and now the nav-instructions-volume is indeed lower - not giving me a scare anymore but 'time' to adjust both the phone and nav volume without a panick reaction. But I still need some more time to test these settings. Yesterday I was listening to a cd with the volume turned up to a comfortable level (I admit, rather high) - and there it was again: the nav-voice came out extremely loud again. Way much too loud, intend on overmastering the cd-volume at all cost. I almost went through the roof, this really took me by surprise!
This is what happens in all other cars that I know that have built-in navigation: the moment you use the phone, the level of ALL other noise-sources (radio, cd, navigation) automatically goes down dramatically (or shut down altogether) + come up again as soon as the phonecall is ended. In my husband's car (a Volvo suv), the nav-voice is even replaced by a very soft 'gong' sound during a phonecall, so that you know you have to pay attention to the road because there is a nav-instruction 'going on'.
Is this possible in the T'Reg? The radio and cd 'shut down' during a call. Why not the nav-voice?
Looking forward to your (and others) reply!

No gong. And the nav directions do come on during the phone call. You just have to turn it down. Frankly, I don't use the voice directions at all. I have it set for MUTE. I check the MFI or nav screen. Look at the upcoming street name and declining bars in the MFI and then drive right past my turn anyway. Voice directions would only make it worse because I would have a woman telling me to make a U-TURN.

No gong...
My VW-dealer is convinced the T'Reg also has this possibility (i.e. nav volume going down automatically during phonecall). Not long ago they added a phone installation themselves to a T'Reg that only had the nav-unit when it came out of the factory and they know from doing a test drive themselves, that it works. They are now going to contact both VW Germany + other customers that they sold a T'Reg with nav+phone installation to, to find out why this happens + find a solution. They agree with me 100% in my expectations (nav going down automatically); in fact, this is generally considered to be 'the normal and safe thing' to happen, in any car. For now, I decided to patiently wait this out (as long as I know that they are as eager to find a solution as I am) and enjoy my car. O:)
