MY21 CR V8 - no traffic in satnav - anyone got it to work in Aus in a CR?

Wow... so VWs in Aus don't have satnav traffic (TMC) enabled. (I have the CR with Innovision)

Step 1. Ring the dealer I bought it from in December. "It should work... let me find out". Nothing.

Step 2: Buy an OBDEleven, enable RDS, change 'fee based traffic' from 65535 to 1024, turn on TP. Nothing.

Step 3: Undo my changes and take the car to the VW service centre. Paraphrased:
Them: "It doesn't work in VWs in Aus".
Me: "But it works in other countries, so the car's capable of it"
Them: "It's not licensed for VW in Australia. You used to be able to change a code and make it work, but not now."
Me: "It works in Audis, which is part of the group"
Them: "Yes it does work in Audis"
Me: "So it's just VW being cheap then?"
Them: ""

Look, it's not the end of the world. It's more the principle of it. These are not cheap cars.

(For those unfamiliar, the traffic information is broadcast on FM frequencies, received by the car and displayed on the satnav unit. It's a service that car manufacturers have to subscribe to. I believe in Australia it's SUNA by Intellematics, and some (not all) major manufacturers use it. Audi and Porsche are subscribers - both part of VAG).

Anyone got it working in a CR (Innovision) in Aus?

Hi Andy
Did you see this post?
Traffic reports enabled
These instructions are for the previous RNS850 system. I haven’t heard of success with the Innovision system yet.
PS, nice Treg 👌
Thanks, I tried 1024. Just coded 32787... will see how that goes!

Enjoying the V8? I love mine. Mine looks exactly like yours, with the addition of a nice scrape to the driver's mirror thanks to my garage

Yes, do let us know if that works. I had Traffic enabled using this method on my previous Treg with the RNS850. It always seemed to take a minute or so to start presenting traffic on the screen and for the most part did work pretty well.
Your previous comments regarding Suna etc are absolutely correct. I found in practice that the traffic function only worked in ‘Capital Cities’ and very occasionally didn’t work at all.
Sorry about the scrape on the mirror. The first is always the worst! 😢

Use Waze of Google maps via Android or carplay. Whilst it's not bad TMC using suna is slower and occasionally bombed by radio 'enthusiasts' which can be amusing

Hi Andy
Spent hours (all of the above) trying to get both TMC and TSR working and the answer is NO
No TMC because as you say VWA are too stingy and wont pay SUNA
No TSR as the camera and MIB are paramitised for AUS and is switched off. There also only ACC and not PACC :(

Thanks all. Disappointing for a not-cheap motor!

The most useful thing I've managed to tweak so far is unlocking the doors when you put the park brake on, rather than pulling on the door handle.

Dunno if they're possible but I'd really like to try and enable
  • auto park brake when you turn ignition off. (it seems to do it sometimes, maybe when parked on a hill?)
  • car locking itself when you walk away. I forget. All. The. Time.

I know ACC... what's PACC?

Be good to find a way in the CR. I'm going to keep trying cos I'm stubborn like that.

Google etc is undeniably better for traffic and appears nicely via Android Auto / Carplay.

But...

As soon as you use maps with Android Auto you lose:
The map in the digital cockpit;
Directions embedded in the centre of the speedo and rev counter;
Directions in the head-up display.

So it'd still be pretty cool to have TMC :)

Have had partial success in getting speed signs in the HUD.
Need to confirm if that came from camera or nav database...wip

All that hard work and patience paid off to provide spurts of joy 😃

I have spent hours on this and the best I get is as follows: (anyone any better ?)

243163

When starting from cold rest must see a sign in the first minute or never will................
If under a minute and spotting one it will display in cluster & HUD and then chuck an error .................

243164

Will hold the road sign and change if sees next but without any fusion to satnav info.
In other words, Speed sign showing = last speed sign the camera identified, ignoring data in sat nav

See if you can find and change the fusion mode to camera only.
Though this might not be possible with a vcds- same issue as 7P. But in 7P it works irrespectively despite the the flash alert.

2019 CR Launch Edition with Innovision

Hi, just got it to work.
Select Control Unit 5F (Information Electrical)
Adaptations
Change Fee Based Traffic Information (TMC) value to ‘1024’
Next, in the normal radio settings, enable ‘Traffic Programme (TP)’ and RDS

Did this yesterday and didn't see traffic feed, TMC still crossed out.
Checked it today and all working
245509

245510

Looks like the vehicle needs to switched off and maybe locked/ unlocked?
Traffic info was updating approx every minute
Changed FM stations and it continued to work
Happy Days!

@ Birry747
I had changed value to 1024 months ago and still nothing.
I have enabled (TP) in radio settings but where do you enable RDS?
What software version are you running?

#33 ·
Same setting as 7P, mine has worked from day one.
Good to have it of course but it's not refreshed as quickly as Google...the occasional hacking and message that appears makes it interesting!

#36 ·
Try 32787 if 1024 doesn't work

#40 ·
Adding a bit more to the mystery:
I switched on the radio without ignition on by pressing the volume knob
TMC was crossed out for about a minute then uncrossed and traffic displayed
I checked the radio station list and found only some displaying TP
I had 97.3 selected so maybe you need to have one of the stations displaying TP (Traffic Program) to get it running in the first place......don't know if this helps

Had it working in the 7p up here in Brisbane... The cr hasn't left Sydney yet

Still no traffic for me :( Set '1024' over a week ago. RDS on, set to TP etc.

Maybe it's been knobbled in later versions of the software.

@evaddirb any joy? Looks like you have the same device number and hardware version as @Birry747... but your software's newer.

@Birry747 did you change anything else in the coding/adaptations, other than to 1024?

My versions:

No I didn't change anything but i have found this about RDS. In module 5F it is "Deactivated" in my coding, doesn't make sence to me but you could try changing Bit 0 if it has been set. I still get the RDS Regional option in the Radio settings of Infotainment system

Byte 13 Bit 0 seems to toggle the appearance of the below checkbox in the MMI in the radio advanced settings. I cleared the bit in mine and the checkbox disappeared.
Still no traffic though!
I'll try putting a nav route in during the week (when there's definitely traffic in Brisbane!) and see if that brings any joy... not too hopeful though.

Hi andy, have 2019 with innovision. Drove down Hume highway yesterday, also had Sygic navigation on my phone, came to a long traffic jam. Sygic showed it in red, toureg showed it in yellow. regards Michael

Set it up for a fellow CR member here in Sydney, worked straight up, it's clear the software, version has an impact hence doesn't work for the later versions
