Noticed on my 2014 touareg comfort line, that it plays DVDs just fine but as soon as you shift into drive and start moving the screen turns off is there any way to hack this and make it so I can watch movies while driving ?

Is this a joke? No offense intended, but this sounds like a joke. You're not really intending on watching a movie while driving are you?

From the VWVortex forums I have seen mentioned "Video in Motion enabled" on the NAV units when people are trying to sell them, not sure how it is done ?
Probably not wise for driver to watch a movie but maybe on a long trip the wife and kids could enjoy a Pixar flik on the small screen?

Lotus panda and others,

I just translated below text as it is. I have no idea what is "5F module" and the remainder. The hint related to RNS-850. So, you should explore it yourself.

1. Choose “5F module”.
2. Enter “Advanced ID – 1A” section.
3. At the pop-up window you’ll get hardware’s serial number. If there are several serial numbers, use the first one. Enter S/N into the field at code generator window. Generate access code.
4. Enter section “Security Access – 16”
5. Insert generated previously code.
6. Press “Do it” icon. If you get a warning re invalid code try another one (two codes are generated as a rule). If second attempt failed then no chance. You module doesn’t support adaptation ???
7. Choose section “Adaptation – 10”.
8. Choose 48 channel.
9. Read it, by pressing “read”.
10. Instead of channel value enter 225 (new speed limitation value).
11. Press “test”.
12. Press “Save”.
13. Press “Done. Go Back”.
14. That’s it.
Link to download code generator software (I guess it is in English) http://trick77.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/VIMGenSetup.msi

You may generate the code yourself. Below picture is an algorithm.
Use (and change position of) hardware S/N last five digits (as indicated).

Sometimes don't you just wish something wasn't possible?

Do you think the OP gets that?

Where I don't support the watching of any video while driving such as movies or tv shows, the VIM is useful with the area view camera system. Without VIM your cameras deactivate at 5km/h having VIM activated you can use your cameras to assist when 4WDing. It allows for you to see where your wheels are positioned at speeds above the cut off mark, useful.

I've tried it and I tell you this is one of the most distracting and dangerous mods ever. I tested a Burning Man documentary DVD and once the naked ladies populated the screen I could not help myself but to keep my eyes on the screen. Needless to say there are no more DVDs in my car. This mod is being DELETED.

Man, people seem to be getting upset at this question. People modify their aftermarket NAVs all the time to play movies/video while the car is driving.

Yes it is dangerous and unnecessary, but this can be a really cool mod. Personally I won't be doing this, but it would be great for passengers on long road trips. I can understand people who aren't strong willed not wanting the temptation, but remember when everyone was buying portable DVD players? I guess the screen location is the most dangerous factor but I see this mod as something for the passengers and I hope drivers are just listening.

Lets just make VW offer the screens they have on Range Rovers which allow the driver to see something different than the passenger. :)

Personally in the last few weeks I have seen enough accidents on the highway with people not paying attention. Either they are texting, talking on their phones or just plain head up their butts not watching traffic. Last thing I want to hear or read about is someone causing an accident due to watching a movie in their car because they modded the NAV to allow them to do such. There is a real good reason it is illegal to have a video screen in the front seat area. Just too damn tempting imo. I have the mod done to my RNS 510, but I can tell you all I ever did was put a DVD in to see if it actually worked. I have never used it. Remember, this mod is illegal and there is a reason it is not activated from the factory!!

Same issue, different continent - far, far too many people now not paying attention whilst texting, phoning, fiddling with their SATNAVS or playing with themselves.

Personally I'd crush the car with the offender inside it and leave the block of steel on the side of the road with the blood leaking out as a reminder to the next tosser who thinks their entertainment, message or call is more important than someone else's life that "You're next a***ole".

Many moons ago I did a wee bit of amateur racing. Once tried playing music on the radio during practice. I was between 0.5 and 1 second slower per lap just while passively listening to music. As a result of that experience/test, I don't even listen to radio while driving now. Is LCD screen addiction so prevalent now that we're risking killing others to satisfy the urge? No one *needs* to be entertained while riding in an automobile. Period. Absolutely stunning there are folks even arguing this tripe. Shameful.

I believe that the way we drive speaks about who we are. And we are - in generic terms - are community of individuals made by our genomes and mildly affected by conditions of a society we live in. As a society declines in organization, the behavior of its members also shifts towards rudeness, disrespect, ignorance to the rights of others, chaotic actions, etc. In turn, decline of social structure is a direct effect of stupidity’s prevalence. There is a solid scientific backing to my own observations as I’ve leant accidently. Some time ago I was having a cup of Starbucks at the Barnes and Noble bookstore near me when I came across the “Basic Laws of Human Stupidity” (Le Leggi Fondamentali Della Stupidita) by Carlo M. Cipolla. I’ve ended up buying this book and would recommend to others to read it, though it is a depressing reading.

In short:
Improbable Research: the laws of human stupidity | Education | theguardian.com

By posting my comment I mean no offence to anyone contributed to this thread. My goal was entertainment only. We can come up with as many very kind, great, smart, wise, etc. recommendations, but human behavior is genetically predetermined and only by small degree is affected by society rules. So buckle up and watch out for stupidita’s carriers.
