major lack of aftermarket V10 TDI

I have spent the last few weeks search the web for aftermarket hardware to get more power out of this beast (2004 V10 TDI) and I am shocked at the lack of support for this vehicle. I have to assume it is due to the very low production numbers and the high cost.

Is there any tuning software available for my laptop that I could tune on my self? The reason I ask is my first move is going to be to straight pipe this thing to open the exhaust and form what I read people are loosing power form doing that which means there is a issue in the tune that needs to be addressed when reducing restriction.

My research resulted in finding no fuel or turbo upgrades at all. Does anyone know of anything I may have missed? I have at least one failing injector which is what made me begin my search for fuel upgrades.

I did find what I am going to call a half assed cold air intake and after looking at the pluming I can't imagine there would be any gains form that so I will hold off on that.

These run about 19psi stock from what i read does anyone know what the intake temps show? are the massive intercoolers enough?

Most chip tuning software will boost you to around 370HP and 670 torque, that's about all the stock pwoertrain can handle. I'm sure you could up the boost but with turbos costing $2 grand a piece and the need to remove the engine to replace them has likely limited the aftermarket.

Do we know for sure what the differences between the standard V10 and the R50 are? I feel like I heard that it was basically just software changes and that the major components were the same. If that's true I wouldn't go much further than a software tune, I'm confident VW knows what they are doing lol.

Here in the UK someone had his V10 remapped and dyno tested today - 401 bhp and 1020 nm torque!

Everything else, apart from new flat panel air filters, was left as standard.

It usually costs ÂŁ300-ÂŁ500 here.

Yeah, chipping makes a huge difference. Before going nuts trying to find what's available, just get a good tune done to it, its quite satisfying. I got mine done by Upsolute, but others on here have O.Ct. good reviews for both those chips.

I'm talking "remap" rather than "chipping" - they are two very different things as was pointed out to me recently when I persisted in using the now old fashioned [and unnecessary] "chipping"!

I hope those stock turbo's are operating within their efficiency range at those boost levels!

If I owned a V10TDI(but don't), you can be damn sure that I would have figured out exactly what kind of turbo units I had. Meaning 1st and foremost their compressor efficiency, compressor size, then onto turbine size, A/R ratio, etc. This would have given me the back bone to understand what really is going on, thus providing an accurate idea of what the thresholds would be, and where to proceed from there should one seek that delicious =P~ adventure.

well I'm using the term interchangably...nobody physically "chips" a V10, they upload new software into the two ECUs via the diagnostic port. it takes less than 2 minutes to reflash.

They are honeywell variable vane turbos...the ECU board on each one of them controls the angle of the blade. I've got the honeywell model number written down somewhere, I'll find it if someone believes they can help further the discussion?

I took an Ebay pair to to my turbo guy to see what he could do with them. He was not very optimistic but he did say they the T15 compressor wheels could be upgraded to T17 wheels. He also pointed out that most shops wont even touch a VNT assembly:( I posted pics of the turbos dissasembled here... Now which thread were those in:confused:...

i did come across those pictures. I just find it amazing that with all the companies out there nobody makes a simple manifold or turbo upgrade for these things. I wonder how much would be gained by the T17 housing.
