Life Expectancy of Touaregs

I have an '04 V8 that is just getting to 80K miles. Done all regular maintenance, oil changes, brakes & tires, and TSBs. I've never had a problem with this vehicle (knock on wood trim!) and its getting to the point of love/hate driving it. I love driving it because it's a Touareg! I hate driving it because of the miles I'm putting on it. I have the extended warranty, but it runs out at 100K (I'm pretty sure). Has anybody had any experience with longevity/high mileage to the point where its time to go? All my experience with Japanese units seemed to last around 175K miles before they had to go. It seems that on the engineering side, the Touareg should hit that easy, but at what costs?

Wow.. you do drive a bunch...

I think the absence of high mile Touaregs is because its still a relatively new vehicle. Only four years now? You'd have to be doing 25k miles / yearly just to reach 100k, if you bought one of the first ones.

I did see a study that rated vehicle expectancy (for environmental impact cost) at around 200k miles. I do hope that as the vehicle gets into second and third hands, third-party shops may become more knowledgeable and be able to handle out-of-warranty repairs like other vehicles in its class. At the moment, I think life expectancy is how ever long its still under warranty.

That got me laughing.

would the V10's supposedly "last" longer? they ought to if you apply the standard diesel engine life span ideas. but the rest of the vehicle might not. you could always put the engine in another car ;)

I drove one of my Land Rovers about 30k miles per year for 5 years.... too bad it doesn't have the body/rust perforation warranty the T2 does. I f it did I think I'd be getting a new car about now.

How long will it last????????//

Let's see, I have owned a 62 camper (90,000m), 61 and 64 beetles ( about 60K on each), 69 bus (about 70K), 99 Jetta (50K), and currently have a 66 bus (owned since 74) with over 250K on it. My 06 Treg has 28,000.

Point is a VW will last if you take care of it. Of course my 66 has had several engine botox jobs since 1974, but the basic car is still going strong. Hope the Treg does as well.

Once the cancer of age begins to decay this engineering marvel, ask not what your warranty can do for you, rather what your trade-in allowance might be.

My philosophy has always been to pay for cars up-front and to drive them until they don't move any longer. The T-Reg will be an exception to this. There are too many systems that must work in harmony --- air-logic, hydrolic, electronic, mechanical, etc. A failure in any one system will bring this marvel to it's knees and the cost to repairs through the Stealership to too high.

I'll let someone else find out how many licks to get to the center of this Tootie pop.

My plan is to dump my 04 in favor of a late vin 08. Some else will need to share what occurs at 80K+. I lack the patience and fortitude.
