KM's to Miles

I've read a number of threads with regards to importing a vehicle from the US into Canada; however, I'm having difficulty with the reverse.

I happen to have a 2014 Touareg in the Vancouver, BC area that I would like to bring down and register in Nevada. Phone calls to dealerships in both locations haven't been able to advise me as to how to go about swapping the speedometer and odometer from kilometers to miles. While I understand it is not completely necessary to do, for my wife who will be driving the vehicle, it is.

The issue stems from parts numbers and the difference I suppose between the numbers based on countries. At least that is what they're telling me. One person thinks it could just be a software change, others figure a change in instrument cluster (my thought) but can't advise me of which part I need or cost.

Hoping that someone here might be able to provide some guidance. To that end, with the number of vehicles transitioning north I'm hoping that I can find a "left behind US version" to place in mine if someone could point me in the direction of where I might find one.

Once again, ideas, insight and advice are all appreciated.

Thanks,

You can switch the Digital speedometer readout in the MFD through the head unit system settings. When I traveled to Canada last year, I switched over to km/hr. Was easy to do.

If you want the actual Analog speedometer switched over, I imagine it would cost some money. Not sure even if the odometer can be converted through the system settings.

As shown here in the cluster swap for the previous generation, find yourself an MPH display from a wrecker yard in the US or UK, get a VCDS and swap the cluster.

The only difference between a KMH and MPH cluster are the graphics on the speedometer, all other functions are identical. The digitally displayed units can be changed between metric and imperial via the preferences menu.

Time for Americans to buy Canadian Touaregs is right...the oil plunge has killed the CAD and the USD is doing really well. Everything up in Canada is 30% off if you're buying with USD.
