So I bought my '04 Touareg a few months ago...Three weeks after I bought I started to hear the "HISS", sure enough the pressure valve on the top of the drivers side air shock was leaking. I have been driving it this way for 1500Kms with no issues and figured today was the day to replace.

Ordered the valve from here:
PORSCHE PRESSURE HOLDING VAL - G95535872002

As for the special tool required to remove, I made my own in 5 minutes...Ran to Canadian Tire and picked up a 1/8" square stock for $4.00. I had to file it down a little to fit the grooves in the valve. Also used a 1/2" drive 19mm socket.

Insert the tiny Pcs. into the valve and slip the socket over as well....The 1/8" pins lock in the socket allowing you to remove and install the valve.

Hopefully you will have more luck then I did because mine broke :(

No worries...Drilled out the hole a little bigger to allow my easy out to fit in....Its a good idea to have a vacuum sucking the shavings as you drill.

And it came right out

Used my special tool to install the new valve.....Tested.....and no more leak

Good show man!!! Brave and out of the box thinking.

I think you are the first to perform this surgery as a DIY. Dealers are charging 4 digit figures for this job. Again, bravo man!

Mods should really consider moving this to the DIY section.

Great post.

If the Mods do move this could they add "in the front strut" to the title to make it easier to find?

dealers replace the entire strut instead of the valve! Shocking... to say the least!

.....and even when dealers replace just the valve, the book time that they charge is ridiculous. I posted the time it took them and consequent price charged in the Sticky thread concerning this problem when it was first a few years back.

Excellent write up. Clever way around the VW tool!! I'm due to replace one valve so this will help for sure.

I had to replace the pass front valve 2 years ago because corrosion behind the valve broke it off. Now I am hearing a hissing sound from the pass front wheel well but it is behind the fender liner. could it be this valve venting air even after the truck is off? Or possibly a broken air line along the frame. I have not removed the inner fender liner to explore this yet. Any information is helpfull
