Good morning,

Ive recently changed my 2013 Range Rover Sport for a 2017 VW Tourareg and absolutely love it ( similar comfort levels, functionality, acceleration, handles much better in the corners and is a lot more subtle)

I do a lot of Surfing and when I go for a surf I lock the vehicle and put the key into a Key Lock Box that is then locked to the door handle with its own combination code .... something like this .. Northcore Keypod 5GS- Key Safe Lock Box: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors

My problem is that the Keyless access functionality will allow anyone to open my Touareg by simply pulling the door handle while I am in the water.

To summarise, Im trying to find a way to disable Keyless Access ( this was just a simple on/off function on the ranger rover vehicle setup screen)

Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the keyless access functionality ?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,
Donal

Hi mate,
welcome to the Touareg experience. I too prefer the drive and functionality of it over the RR.
similarly i lock my key in the same fashion. I hang the safe lock off the front stabaliser bar. this way its far enough from the doors and you cannot unlock the vehicle.
if you really want to disable keyless then it can be done via vcds.

Why not just make another RF shield for the in use fob? Then put it in your lockbox. Just like how you carry an extra fob on your Touareg in case you lose or damage the first ( The old hidden key bail-out. )

I reached out to Ross Tech about this. There is no known way to disable the touch to lock/unlock feature. I even tried to disable features on the key start functions they said may work. Nothing.

I just did what others said, and got a RF/Faraday case to put the key in. I then hide the box on the vehicle.

Rosstech said keyless can't be disabled? Vow that's strange

Not this type. It's apparently part if the starting system or something on this chassis:

Thanks Singh, I had already tried that but even inside the lockbox its seems to be still transmitting enough signal to open the door .. the fob batteries are probably new as the garage i bought it from did a full service ... Im gonna try kitchen foil and then maybe buy some RF Shield material and cover the inside the lockbox ...

Thanks Guys.. Im gonna try the kitchen foil idea and report back ... just find it really strange that VW hadn't thought about people wanting to disable this .. when I studied computer science many moons ago, we were always told that its really important to build in a rollback ( a big OFF button) to everything ...

Maybe it's the type of box being used, mine is a metal type and must be doing a good job of containing the RF within

Just FYI, with the 7P Kessy system, you need to block both the active and the passive portions of the vehicle/fob inquiries/commands and their responses. Simple shielding works well, and can be easily tested.
Similarly, to carry a spare fob in the vehicle for emergency use (the ubiquitous “spare key” of yesterday), one merely has to locate the plastic “emergency” key at a secure hidden (yet accessible) location on the vehicles exterior, and store the fob hidden and shielded in the interior. Personally, I keep it with the battery removed, and store a fresh, sealed, battery with it. To ad another layer of security, hide the battery separately. To open the vehicle, retrieve and use the emergency key to open the drivers door. Then retrieve the fob and install the battery to complete the communications. You have about 30 seconds to do this before the alarm sounds. Even if it does, it can be silenced by using the now active fob.
It sounds more complicated than it is. Enjoy.

There is a simple way you could try. Take off either one door handle (outside) then unplug the connector now you can only lock/unlock with key fob. I know that because I got one oxdiezed connector now I lost the kessay function.
