How to add Diesel Fuel Treatment

How do ya'll add fuel treatment to your tank?

I have been using the 8oz Opti-Lube bottles to pour the treatment into the tank. However, the neck of these bottles are a bit short and do not open the flap. I assume the treatment is going down the small vent hole at the base of the filler neck.

I just want to know if ya'll have other methods of adding the treatment.

I have an '11, and mine doesn't have a flap. One thing that it does have, however, is a "ring" around the filler that acts as a place for air to get into the tank.

I have not seen any of the ones with the flap. But, if it has the ring around the filler area, just pour it in there. It will get in the tank.

Thanks for the info. I pour the treatment before filling up.

I am thinking the filler adapter used for oversize nozzles would work. For less than $10 I think it is worth a shot.

I am so glad I live in a less hostile climate. Over here we don't have to worry about diesel gelling or stuff like that.. How does the application of stuff like this go down with a DPF?

Someone help me understand: Flap or no, misfueling preventer or no, if you pour in additive and it's obviously not ending up on the ground or something, where else can it possibly go except the fuel tank?

Top Tip: When you unscrew the cap from the bottle of additive, make sure the cap liner isn't sticking to the top of the bottle. That happened to me once and I didn't notice until no additive would flow out of the bottle. It was pure luck that the cap liner was stuck to the bottle firmly enough that it didn't go down my filler pipe into the tank.

I'm in the dark on this as well. I haven't noticed a flap on the T2, but i have noticed a small hole under the main one. I assumed this was to capture overflow. Now, i assume this overflow feeds back into the tank, and not on the ground, like my old Jetta did.

As far as adding additives, the bottle i'm using doesn't have a long neck, and it's cap is about the same size as washer fluid. Never had any issues.

That little black hole can't feed back into the tank as it's not sealed, it not only catches overflow fuel but also water and dust coming in around the fuel fill door.

I just pour slowly. The 2014 Touareg has a substantial flap that does a good job of blocking me from pouring anything fast. My 2010 Jetta has a retrofitted misfuel adapter that is more like a lever which prevents the nozzle from going in more than 1/2" unless it is the correct size. The left and right sides are wide open so pouring in additive isn't a problem. I wish VW had used that design on the Touareg.

There is another little hole inside the metal ring, it is sealed when the cap is locked on. You can see it a little better in the first picture.
