On Saturday my wife went to get into her Treg and the key fob would not unlock the door, she had to unlock it with the key, when she got in and tried to start it was completely dead, and when I say completely I mean it didn't even make a sound, so we jump started it, it took awhile but finally jumped, has not had a problem since this morning it started pretty hard. Last night I noticed that when I unlocked the door with the fob the headlights did not come on like they usually do, the volt meter on the dash reads a consistent 14, I am not sure what it could be. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I bought this truck in April and this is my first major problem with it. Please Help.

That would cause the lights not to come on at night when unlocked with the fob? would the volt meter on the dash still read 14? I hope its only the battery.

Thanks

The voltmeter should read exactly 14 volts when the engine is running. This means that the charging system is probably fine. To do a quick battery check, turn the key to the "run" position, and do not start the Touareg. The "static" reading of the voltmeter without the engine running is a decent indicator of battery voltage (albeit not a full indication of good or bad), as it is basically displaying battery voltage. My '05 sits at about 12.8 volts before starting.

The headlights might not come on when unlocking due to their being a low voltage condition in the battery. The load intervention kicks in to keep from draining the battery further by activating the lights.

batteries technically are good for about 4-5 years or so but they can go anytime.

my wife's 04 v8 experienced many electrical problems; 2 new batteries and 2 harness'

the last time it was towed in, it turned out to be the harness between the alternator and b positive cable causing the alternator not to charge the battery properly.

good luck.
