Hello all!

I recently purchased a 2011 Touareg hybrid TSI with a broken hood cable.

When pulling the latch there’s no resistance due to the cable not being attached. I pulled the trim off and wasn’t able to find the cable anywhere.

I wanted to see if anyone has came across this issue and what they did to fix it? The only way I can think of to access everything is: to ruin the hood and I’d hate to do that.

Could you get to it by removing the wheel well insert? My 2016 has the cable running right above the wheel well insert ,but if the problem is it's broken at the hood latch it won't solve the problem. These cars were not designed by a practical engineer. There are many similar things that can't be solved easily. I've dealt with several already.

I was able to remove the wind shield wipers and I think I have enough room to unbolt the hood from the hinges. Does anyone know the size nut it is? 13mm? 14mm?

WTF is that going to do? Quit butchering stuff and pay someone to solve your problem .... You obviously don't understand how to do it based on the crazy approaches you want to take.

I have the same issue with my 2006 v10, cable is attached at lever and pulls but seems its disconnected at the bowden joint which sits under the hood.
I can hear it move there but its not working through to unlatch.
Darn!
I am going to remove the front vw emblem and try and remove the latch holder, theres gotta be a way through there.
Vw engineers must have left some way to unlatch hood when the cable breaks.

And i would like to think the procedure to unlock t3 hood would be similar.

This is a known issue so keep the latch and connecting cable greased.

The only access is via the grille.

Trying to take the bonnet/hood off when it's still secured by the inaccessible latch is crackers.

There are several posts on here on how people eventually got the latch undone and all involved a great deal of swearing!

Had to laugh. I thought you were mad! But if it worked then carry on being crackers!!
