So I have the button for the steering wheel option but it seems that it does not work. Does the presense of the button mean that I have the option or is it a dead button? What other options came with the heated steering? I read in the manual that on the colored display when the button is pushed, there will be an indication lit up, so I take it that on the monochrome (which I have) nothing will show or I don't have the option?

Every Treg has that button. For it to actually work you would have to have the winter package which consist of four zone heat as well as rear heated seats. You can add the feature but not cost effective imo.

You need the winter package plus the premium package I believe. I don't have the 4 zone but I do have the winter pack and my wheel gets nice and toasty. There is a green emblem on the multi function display and it says its turned on when you first press the button.

2006 V10's don't have the heated steering wheel in any package. 2004 V10's did.

I don't know if you've ever had a heated steering wheel, but it's an odd thing. Living in Florida, I don't get to use it much, but when I do it's odd to have the palms of your hands nice and toasty, but the tops of your hands cold...

Me? I'd rather just move further south...

I'm with you on that one!!!...in the meantime (until I can move to Florida) for winter weather there's not much I like more than a heated steering wheel.

06 TDI-heated steering wheel??

To re-visit an older topic... I'm about to buy an 06 TDI and am trying to figure out if it has a Heated steering wheel. You said NO 06s had that option? The one I'm looking at has 4-zone Climate control and heated rear seats, does none of that matter? I*'ve heard that's the "indicator". I can't just go try it myself because the thing is half the country away from me and the sales guy says he can't figure it out... Thoughts?

Hi - That's correct the 06 and 07 V10's didn't have heated steering wheels regardless of other option packages. All 06's were actually packaged the same way with 4-zone Climate Control, heated seats....the rear locking diff was an option as was 19" Atheo wheels but that's was about it for options. In 07 you could customize more and there were some additional standards such as the turn with steering headlamp feature but no heated steering wheel.

V10.....odd you could not have the heated steering wheel on the 2006 V10. I thought it was just the 2007 V10 that did not have it.

My 2006 V8 which is fully loaded with the 4 zone winter package, etc. Has it. As others have said you have to have the winter package. If you press the button you will get a green steering wheel icon in the MFI....and then warm hands soon after that.

Like the Florida folks in AZ I do not need this unless I go skiing, but it is a nice feature to have.

Again, None of the 2006 or 2007 V10's have heated steering wheel from the factory. Early 2006 V8's and V'6's were available with this option but even the later built 2006 V8's and V6's didn't get this option either.

I know these vehicles inside and out and have personally added the heated steering wheel to my 2007 by changing the spiral spring, steering wheel control unit and adding the heated version of the steering wheel. Thanks for trying to help though it would have been nice if I was not understanding the function of the heated wheel and then found I had it all along...:)unfortunately for me and all the other 2006/2007 V10 owners we got the short end of the stick:(

So, is it relatively straightforward for a mechanically inclined person to add the heated steering wheel? Did I see that it's around $1,000 to make the change over? This is an option I simply must have and as you've spelled out--can't have--unless I add it myself.

I certainly think so but straightforward may not be the same for every mechanically inclined person. Getting the airbag off is hard for some, it takes a knack with the screwdriver to spread the spring clips that release it. One member tried such and damaged the wiring (ribbon cable) to the radio controls on the wheel. Once you get this off you need a triple square drive (I think 16 mm) to remove the steering wheel itself then you need to remove the spiral spring without changing the steering wheel centering sensor...if you do you'll likely need to go to the dealer to remove the fault code...additional pieces come apart to get the control unit out which is really like a part of the main steering column components not a square control box...

Also, you can purchase the spiral spring for half the cost if you purchase the Porsche Cayenne version...go figure...

When it comes time let me know and I'll try and lend support if you need it. BTW - I have an extra spiral spring if you have any problems locating one.

Just a note on the 2004 V10 with winter package. The heated wheel is available with either the 2 or 4 zone climate control.
