Are you 100% sure you have the light lined up "in the slides: as you install it? I have had that happen and found out that the light was not perfectly lined up as I pushed it back in.

Look at the bottom of the light and the housing. There are two slides that help it line up. Also twist the handle to close the mechanism and watch how it moves and look at the bottom of the light. Hopefully you will be able to "put it all together" and see how it works.

The slides are like the rails that a kitchen drawer runs on. It prevents the light from going left or right (side to side) and keeps the light centered so that the electrical connector and latch mechanism is lined up correctly. The latch simply pops up against a tab on the bottom of the headlight, preventing the light from moving forward. The light can not slide back any further, so it is locked into place.

Sometimes you get a thud that sounds like you just tapped you knuckle on something, but usually you do get a noise.

I suspect that you are not getting the light lined up correctly in the slides.

Just thought to tell you... The late model Jag owners with HID. They have to remove the freaking bumper to put in a new headlight bulb! :!:

Dead right there, but the Alternator can be changed without dropping the engine out. (Just) seen it done on Youtube and in America!!

Interesting but it looks like they had to tear half the engine apart. I was reading over the repair bills from the previous owner of my 08 and I think the cost to remove and reinstall the engine and trans was around $1300. I didn't think that was too bad. Wait till I post some of the service receipts for this thing. Turns out the previous owner had 25 grand, yes 25 grand in work done under his fidelity warranty. One was 19 grand alone. Never ever seen a work order for that much for a car.

Jeeze I am beginning to regret this sale. lol Hey replace the alternator on My old ML is under the turbo and is also a PITA to change out it is also water cooled. But hey I can get a bought warranty for £1200 a year! and you need to read the small print to see what is covered and what isn't, That warranty isn't worth it.
