I am a brand new Treg owner - just bought a 2012 V6 Lux. I test drove the vehicle 3x prior to purchasing but never turned the engine off because the sales consultant was required to drive it back into the gated lot each time. I drove the Treg home and notice a grinding noise when I turned the engine off. Sounds perfect when I turn it on - no issues there. It only lasts about a second but it just doesn't sound right. Anyone else ever experience this? This is my first VW so not sure if this is normal or not. I plan to take it to the dealer next week to check it out. I am still under warranty for about 2.5 more weeks. Thanks in advance!!

Get yourself a good warranty sorted out ASAP.

The Touareg is too frickin' expensive to fix when it goes wrong if you run it without one.

EGR cycling?

Take it back to the dealer. Insist on comparing to another vehicle. Insist on a scan.

Thanks guys - at the dealer now. They are performing the 30K service with full inspection prior to my warranty expiration. Will update if anything turns up.

Any recommendations on extended warranties? I'm sure there is a ton of info on this forum but haven't searched yet. Thanks

Ask at the dealer you are at now and then go online...

I'd be having a look at idler pulleys on the accessories belt (alternator belt). I had a very similar noise that happened just before the idler/tensioner slowed to a stop. It failed a week later.
