After my FOB Key 'De-Programmed' itself I couldn't open my TREG (with one key)

The dealer told me it would cost $50-60.00 to reprogram OR if that didn't work a new key would be $469.00 + the reprogramming cost!

I found the DIY reprogramming information on the following website;

VW Remote Fob Programming Guide: | autokeysquad.co.uk

VW:
VW Volkswagen Step-by-Step FREE Fob programming guide:
Remote Control Programming (1997 ON)
Procedure:
1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition.
2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second
key.
3. Using the remote control press the Unlock button once, and the horn
will sound once.
4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the coding
procedure. The remote control will now be programmed.
NOTE : When performing programming on additional remotes the procedure
is the same, except you press the unlock button 2, 3 or 4 times for the
different remote.
For example : If programming 2 remotes press the unlock button twice with
a 1 second interval between each press, repeat for 3 and 4 remotes.
5. Switch Ignition OFF.
6. Remove key from ignition and check for operation.
7. The coding procedure can be repeated up to 4 times for additional remotes.
8. The ignition must be switched OFF between programming each remote
control.

It took all of forty (40) seconds to program the faulty FOB Key and saved me $$$$$$$

So has anyone done this with a new key? I just had to order a new key as the only one I have is falling apart and if I can program it without paying the stealer anymore money it would be great. I just want to make sure it will program it for everything including the KESSY.

Thanks.

Roger,
Thanks for your posting. I just tried reprogramming my key after replacing the battery and it worked just like you said. (Only my horn did not sound). Thanks for saving me a lot of aggrevation and expense.

I'm trying this but having problems.!
I put the key in and turn ignition on, then set all the comfort settings the way I want and adjust the seat and save it w the 'ding'. Then I get out and lock the drivers door manually using the 2nd key.(No honk, doors lock but no alarm on) Then I push unlock w 2nd key, wait 6 secs and press unlock again, get back in turn off ignition and remove 1st key from ignition. I then insert 2nd key and do the same.
As soon as I hop in and use the 1st key it sets all the comfort settings back to something I don't want (auto door lock, key unlocks only drivers door etc.)

Frustrating to say the least. Maybe I'm screwing up the # of times your supposed yo press unlock and when.?!?

Door programming

I didn't take time to set presets in the car. I put the key to be programmed in the ignition, turned it to on position.
Then got outside and manually locked the car with a spare key and followed the instructions I received on line here and it worked. The horn did not sound but the key was programmed.

Aaah. I see, my keys are working fine, I'm hoping to get the comfort settings to code to each key.
I set it up the way I want for one key, then do the 2nd key, but then switch back to the 1st key & the settings all go back to factory.! (Auto–lock, fob only unlocks driver door etc.)

Where's a good source for a new key & fob..uncut?
You can go to any dealer with your t-reg and regi and order one cut. Then program it yourself and your set. Should cost about 120-150 from what I was told from my parts guy when I inquired about a new key. I know that's the route I'm going when needed. The dealer also offers a creditcard key for emergency's too!

Hi, Merry Xmas to all,
i just got this 2008 V6 few weeks ago, with 1 remote key,, after reading in here, i bought a used remot control with new key cut,, and tried to follow the instructions here, but not working, when i put the new key and turn on, i got the message (Immobilizer Active), and after going through all steps, still no success.
Any suggestions? before going to dealer here in DUBAI and ask them to programme the new key (with used rempote control)!!!!
Enjoy the day, and thanks,

The above method is for programming the buttons only to open and close the vehicle with the fob. The chip inside to allow the key to be recognized to start the vehicle has to be done by the dealer. No way around that. Since you bought that key use more then likely it won't work due to it having been programmed to a different car. When you go in they will need both keys to essentially start over so the car knows it has two keys and not one. Again, above procedure is for the buttons on the fob only.

Make sure the key in the ignition is the one that works. The one your trying to program is the one that does not work.

If this does not work, then you probably need to go to the dealer.
