VW Touareg 2004 V10 Engine in Bruthen, VIC | eBay
Just need a sanity check one way or the other.
I have contacted this guy about the engine a few times.
First he had it listed at $1500 about 3-4 months ago and I offered him $350 which he knocked back.
I know individually the sum of parts are worth well over $350 and for that matter $1500. But as a failed engine the block is worth $0 and the rest of the components worth in my opinion not much more.
For example who would buy the turbo's and fit them to their V10, not many if any at all I would bet, without at least having them serviced but most have fitted new units and the turbo's are a very specific item on the V10 and you would be very hard pressed to find another application.
Cams and lifters would be shot or well on the way.
So you would be just chasing other specific stuff like exhaust manifolds, heads, timing module. alternator, starter etc. By my counting I believe about 2 members have posted about a full rebuild and maybe a handful more about heads removed and replaced.
I sent him a message today asking about his Tandem pump as mine is leaking and it may be from the join between the vacuum and the fuel pump. I just want a unit to strip just to see if this can be resealed and if it was ok inside maybe reuse it. He wanted $200 plus freight which I said given you only want $1000 for the engine that is steep and a new unit is only $430 usd. then I offered him $300 for the pump and turbo's which he also declined to accept., (am I a low baller as you yanks call them?)
Anyway as a final I told him that his potential customer base for a damaged V10 was next to zero and when he has decided that he cannot sell it call me before he scraps it as I will pay more than them.
Anyway am I a heartless person or am I being realistic, but please be gentle.
