Hi, I own a 2006 VW Touareg v6 and I love it.:p I want to purchase an extended warranty to keep my baby well cared for but heard Fidelity is over priced and a rip off. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm lookng into Warranty Direct which covers 4 years/100,000 or Customer Edge - 4 years/ 120,000 - which would be purchased through Koeppel. I feel like I'm being ripped off and need some direction from real VW owners!

Chris here from VW of Langhorne in Langhorne, PA.
The VW RealDriver extended service contracts have changed as of Jan 01,2008
They have now combined the new car extension w/ the used car extension and have come up w/ one main plan.
They still have the same verbage in the new contract as far as coverages that will be explained here:

> Allthough I am open to all coverages, I would reccomend the Platinum
> coverage as it is an exclusionary warranty vs an inclusiuonary warranty!

>
> These quotes are w/ a std $100 deductible.

> Should you want a $50 deductible, please add an additional $270 + tax

The $100 std deductible is per visit, NOT per complaint!

Chris,

I have an 04 V8 with 55K miles on it. It is a CPO so I am on the CPO warrenty right now (will find out this weekend when that expires). What are my options with the VR Real Driver Platinum warrenty?

Chris, i'm looking at Warranty Direct now also and would like to know what the platinum program w/ $100 ded. would cost. I have just under 45,000 on my 2005 V8 that is covered until November 1 under the original warranty.

Thanks

Just out of interest, does anyone know of any extended warranties that apply whist the vehicle is still under warranty? Reason I ask is that though I have an 08, I'm not driving 840 miles round trip. Most places only work once the factory warranty expires. Alas, VW neither honors its warranty by non-dealers nor allows the roadside assistance to be transferred from one owner to another. If anyone knows of any I'd be interested in just seeing what they would charge as I guess I'll rely on Bentley Books to do my own.

Diablonyc2,

Unfortunately, w/ the new rule you would have to go to a dealer for them to check out your Touareg and then they can put the VW RealDriver contract on it.

I hate to say this, however, unfortunately, the only way I can helpo is to guide you on a fair price to pay for the contract!

Shoot me a pm when you are ready!

siberian,

The best contract configuration I can see when I looked into it for you is to buy the VW RealDriver extended service contract by the end of the year or before you hit 9999 miles. This would get you either a 5yrs or 100k, a 6yrs or 100k, or a 7yrs or 100k contracts that would cover you up to 110k

On another note, VW absolutely honors its contract w/ an outside shop as long as they have a federal tax ID number! They will pay right over the phone w/ a VISA card.

The VW RealDriver contract also comes std w/:
Up to $75 for towing per covered mechanical breakdown!
$35 per day for rental up to 10 days
$75 per day up to $350 in trip interuption benefits!

Chris:

Thanx so much. I called VW North America and they categorically stated that they would NOT honor any warranty where the work is performed by a non VW dealer/service center. I would thus be grateful if you could give me a name/number of the person to call because I have no alternative (other than do the work myself) seeing as it's a 430 mile trip to Anchorage one way. Thanx

Siberian,

The VW RealDriver extended service contract is written and backed by VW!

It is fascilitated thru Fidelity Warranty Services out of Deerfield Beach, FL.

THe VW RealDriver extension is the one that would honor your repairs outside of a VW dealer!

THe factory warranty from VW MUST be serviced at a VW dealer!

THeir number to ask about it for confirmation would be 800-443-9841

Chris

Chris thank you again for taking the time. Two remarks. A few people have had problems with Fidelity, but most of the "extended" warranty places state that it is what it is "extended" thus it would apply only AFTER the 4 year warranty expires. I'll do some more research on Fidelity and see what they ask for (what it costs) and what customer feedback has been.

Thanx again, appreciate the help!

Siberian,

The VW RealDriver extended service contract works along w/ the factory warranty if purchased while your vehicle is still in factory warranty! It overlaps, however, you would still start w/ your factory to avoid a deductible.

See, the pricing is less expensive for the extended service contract w/ lower miles on your vehicle!

Fidelity is a very large company! When you do the research, try to look up the VW RealDriver end of it!

Chris

So let me understand. When I called a few of the "extended warranty" companies they told me to call back in 4 years. So how does this work? Start with the factory warranty? I can't there's no dealer, so then what? I'll try and give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

Again thanx for the heads up!
