FUGLY - the straight tops to the wheel arches are just plain WRONG.

No, FUGLY is our PM and she doesn't even have wheel arches!

Exterior is not distinctive enough to compete with the Evoques styling cues...but a nice interior...test mule hybrid getting 85+ mpg...Audi developing a diesel hybrid are all good moves

LOVE this...looks wide. The Scirocco butt end looks good but wow is that C pillar think, hope it comes with a lane warning system standard since that blind spot will be HUGE.

FUGLY, PM - I assume you are referring to "Personal Message"? Dead Horse

Would you like me to send you a fugly lyrical "PM" ?

I know an independent Belgium mechanic who is MB factory trained. I help gut his Karalee house after the Jan floods! Anyway, it can't be the entire tranny stuffed. Surely it can be rebuilt?

This is the thing, the Treg drives fine, the ONLY symptons is a weep of oil which the VW dealer has diagnosed as a leaky torque converter seal. So In their expert wisdom:

  • My observation of having to top up a bit of powersteering fluid every two weeks - they say a new power steering pump required; &
  • Their observation of oil leak and a slightly rougher (but hardly noticeable) shift into fifth (which has now virtually disappeared since I've driven back to my house from the dealership) - they say it's a complete replacement of the entire tranny.
I think if I did them together at an authrosied VW workshop, it'd be close to $18k, if I did them separately (sort out the torque converter leak first, then observe to see if the power steering is actually leaking), then replace the power steering pump it's likely to add up to $20k.

A BMW tech has advised (not quote) me a fraction of the above to replace the seal, but I'm guessing he is reluctant to touch it so I have not pushed him.

I have never come accross anything short of complete replacement of a part with my Treg, during the warranty period (thank god), I was told the reason it took a few goes with an airbag fault was because they replaced: the slip ring, then the airbag, then finally they discovered it was only a faulty connector. I'm guessing the same diagnosis protocol is being applied here, replace the entire transmission.

Aisin Asia Pte Ltd

BTW Barefoot - Toyota have about a 30% stake in Aisin, so they can't be a bad tranny. It's Aisin in the Tig as well I think. You'll probably find the Gerry DSG will be the for over the Aisin in newer VW models.
