Hi Guys it's been a while and the 2014 treg has been OK overall. It's developing a few issues the latest of which is that it has blown the rocker cover gasket on the RHS (Drivers side). (Its always had a weep since VW done the upper sump gasket repair in 2021 but now it's let go completely and dripping oil losing about 50ml/week.
As always I will write a full how-to as this side does not look too bad to do. I have ordered an injector pulling kit, injector seals and the cover gasket. What I need is the injector seal fitting tool T10377 if anyone has one they'd like to sell or loan.
Other jobs I have coming up are roof lining replacement/re-trimming, and camera diagnostics.
Kind regards
Graham

I personally don't have one of those tools but I see them on Ebay for like $14 USD + up to $25 USD. Not too bad of a price for a tool to be added to the tool box. Is the cost more than that where you're located?

You can just use your fingers. You likely won't need the puller, remove the injectors when engine is hot. Have you only got the leak.off o.rings? You will need the actual injector seals, the injector body O rings, and the hold down bolts as well.

What is the most critical parts of the inj seal replacement process are
1- if the injector is tight do use a puller (I made my own)
2- be very gentle when pulling out the injectors, the old copper washer can fall off at the last moment and end up inside the rocker tappet area. What I really mean is always account or locate the old sealing washer for the injector.
3- make sure the seat area on the head is perfect or recut the surface.

All the other stuff is just common engineering practice

I have a puller kit en route, I have copper washers and o rings en route also. You mentioned bolts are critical also? I'll order them today.
I just don't know if the O rings are Viton or PTFE or Teflon as if they are the latter 2 they are more of a plastic material than rubber and stretch out of shape easily. I'd hope they are a fluroelastomer like Viton or aflas (high heat capacity) as they are usually around 70 shore and stretchy so fitment is easy. If they're PTFE or Teflon, they can be a pig.
The fault I have is VW didn't put my rocker gasket on properly, it went back at the end of a year and I suspect they cleaned it and botched it. Now the warranty has ended the gasket has finally let go and it's leaking quite badly.

For the rocker cover sealing if it was leaking from the rear area have a look around the rear timing cover to head rocker cover sealing surface. I think you will most likely find a small but noticeable step that the rocker cover gasket has to deal with. So that will require a small amount of RTV sealant over that step. Was a poor fitment design on VWs behalf.
As for all the oring material specs mentioned I can tell you the orings themselves are on the softer durometer scale and are easily put in place by hand just make sure they are not twisted and use a small amount of rubber grease to aid fitment.

Excellent, that's exactly where it's leaking from, rear bottom corner of the head cover. I will use Loctite blue maxx 587 for this. I have loads of that, it's excellent for engine oil, thixotropic and good for 260 degrees C.
Cheers for the heads up.

The o rings are not PTFE or Teflon, they are very easy to fit. It is only a low pressure junction.

Yes, hold down bolts are torque to yield and single use. You will need a torque wrench that goes down to 6nm.

Cool, I've got a torque wrench that goes from 1.2 -24Nm so laughing there.
