I am thinking about buying a 30 foot cabin cruiser. I have the v8 touareg, and am about to get a hitch installed. with a trailer the thing would wieght about 8500 - 9000 pounds, depending on how much fresh water and fuel are in the tanks. What should i do. the only time i would be pulling it is the 100 yards from where i would launch it to where i would park it on the trailer. some times i would have to drive it to the gas station about 1/2 a mile away. I am not sure about the tongue weight but im sure it would be alot. do you think the egg can handle it. i am not so worried about doing this bc it is such short distances and it would not hurt the tranny. i am thinking about getting an oversized trailer so the boat sits more on the axels and cuts the tongue weight down. do you think there would be anyway that i could pop my airbags bc i have the air suspension. what else could i hurt on the egg. i know the trailer will have brakes so i think i will b ok on that. im like a sitting duck on this matter, i dont know much about cars, but i can not pass up the deal on this boat. what should i do.

I personally would not do it...what's the beam on that 30' er? is it even trailerable on roads without an escort?.

I think you will be ok
I think there is a post somewhere from Jturpin where he pull a cartrailer with a one ton dually on it down the road. It weighed more than that

the beam is 11.5 feet, an no you would not need an escort, i must see a boat like this multiple times a week being traliered around by chevy's and f-250's

I think you would be fine if you drove slow and carefully. How slick is the launch ramp?? It seems to have really good traction when launching our wakeboard boat (6,000 lbs.), but you are talking about a lot more weight up the ramp.

Don't they have a marina tractor around where you are to pull it out and fill it up?

i dont think they have a tracor. the guy that owns his own boat shop that i would but it from, told me that it was about 8000 pounds, and when i just looked on the sea ray site it said it was 10,000 pounds, and thats dry, add 180 gallons of gas and 50 gallons of fresh water , plus all the water it sucks in when your on the water. an no the ramp usually is not wet bc its a very private ramp, only thirty members. i just dont want to have to pay 400 to 600 bucks a month to keep it is the water when i pay only 100 bucks now to keep my other boat next to the ramp on land.

My money says you can pull it with the Touareg, but a boat that big should be kept wet.

Pay the money and keep it in the water. That must be a fancy marina charging rates like that.

Trailerable boats (IIRC) are limited to 8.5' beam At 11' beam, you are maxed on a traffic lane, hence he earlier post questioning the need for an escort.

Put it in and pull it out once a year.

8.5 beam max is what my understanding was as well...I agree leave it in the water, have the marina move it around for off season/service.

I have no doubt that it can be pulled, I just personally wouldn't do it with my own Touareg.

Only one way to find out Evan :) Let us know how it goes and post a picture with it all hooked up. That would be a sight to see!

You know what they say about Texas...everything is BIG down there!

Big boats require big bucks. With the gas you'll be using, a dock rental there will seem like NOTHIN'.

Actually, now that I think about it....a season slip rental up here on Lake Erie would be about 4-600/mo. for a 30' boat. Since our lake gets iced up for about 4 months of the year, the season usually starts in mid-May. By October, all but the hard core are out of the water.

A 30' boat is a floating cottage...Personally, I'd want to just walk on it and sleep on it and party on it...not spend 30-40 minutes each way haulin' it in and out to use it. Again, keep it wet so you can enjoy it.

Why endure the hassle of putting it on a trailer twice a day when you want to use it?

You're gonna pay anyway you look at it...good luck!

have you considered a 28' ft. SeaRay? Unless you are looking for a dancer, the 280SS- more of a 1-2 nighter, is easily trailerable (6400lbs dry) and comes in with a 9.6" beam

If anything happened to the treg wouldn't it be under warranty? Go for it, if so.
