First Post, first issue with new car

Have seen many threads discussing valve body issues, clunking gear changes, drive train bangs, body shudders, bad vibrations.....

I have just experienced my first experience of drive train shock as the car changed down both on the highway and at local road speed. Touareg 2004 V6.

I am wondering if there is a way to test conclusively that it's an issue with the valve body?

From several posts, I see that most mechanics take a "stab in the dark approach" replacing parts without much science.

Great board you've got here, already got heaps out of older posts.

thanks

I haven't seen any other reason for the hard downshift than the VB.

WE are the conclusive proof that if you get THE THUMP from 5th to 4th you need a new valve chest.

No other proof or test is required - just get on with changing it.

change the ATF cooler thermostat as well.

hi can anyone please help my v8 2005 auto transmission dont go into 4th or 5th or 6 gear as soon as it needs to change from 3rd gear to 4th then it acts as i am pressing a clutch.Vw replaced the oil and filter but i still have the problem, now they say to replace the valve body and the gearbox people say it is the k2 clutch plates that is burned.I am not sure who to believe as some people say it can be the n88 solonoid

Please help
thanks

hi, but what about other situations, something like long down when you will accelerate without pushing the gas pedal will it up shift? or when you use tiptronic??? do you have any fault codes generated cause of this problem?
