Had this problem as well... The first time in, the dealer said they knew nothing of it and just reset the clock. The second time in, they did replace the instrument cluster and the clock keeps proper time now.
Replacing the cluster does work.

Hi Everyone,

I've had my Touareg for about a month now, and I like it.

I have noticed that the clock in mine runs fast by 1.5 minutes per week. Not preferring to have the instrument cluster replaced, I was wondering if anyone has more info regarding the availability of a flash update/fix for the fast running clocks? If it will be available from dealers within a couple of months, I'm thinking of having it done the same time it goes in for the 5K service.

Thanks in advance,
Mehrdad

The software fix was promised almost a year ago. It was supposed to be available in Europe, but no one has posted that they had it done. It is less likely than new cd nav disks or a wiper fix.
Change the MFI. It was done easily and perfectly.

I'm going to cross my fingers and hope the fix will be here in a month so it can be done at the same time as the 5K service. I don't mind waiting a for the flash update, in hopes of getting a fix without having to lose my cumulative MPG. Of course, if the flash update doesn't arrive in a month or so, and/or doesn't fix the problem then I'll request to have the MFI replaced (for me, it is more important to keep accurate time then to have a cumulative MPG, just that I rather not give up the cumulative MPG info nor risk having a part removed/re-installed if it can be avoided).

At least it was good to hear that the service folks at my dealer knew about the fast clock problem mentioned here. They said that VW told them the flash update would be available sometime after the holidays (they didn't have a specific release date -- so I figure, I'll wait a month, if no flash update is out by then, I'll ask the SM to order the MFI part and replace it during the 5K service).

My dealership told me the software update fix for the fast clock issue arrived last month for the non-Nav V8 models. It was applied to my Touareg while it was in for its 10K service a couple of days ago. Note, apparently applying the fix requires the MFI to be reset so the cumulative MPG info was lost #-o Of course, it will all be worth it if the clock starts keeping accurate time.

The local VW dealer flashed the software on my '04 V* non-Nav Treg. The 'fix' did not take and now my Treg is out of warranty so any further attempt is on me. I am quoted $99 to fix it...again.
Does anyone know if there is an alternative software source to VW's proprietary solution?
