As promised I checked out to see if the TPSM light stays on with the system off...I'm happy to report that the light does not stay on. So you can shut it off without looking at a fault or TPSM light...
Just my 2 cents...
Sean
That is the answer I was looking for. So when/if I get my new Treg I will be shutting it off. Thanks Sean for checking that out for me.

The old system was not that great although mine worked fine. I removed it after getting a flat the other year on the rally and having to listen to the damn alarm and seeing the defective wheel on board message for a few of hundred miles on my way home. I looked at getting more sensors for the other wheels, but was cost prohibitive. I chose to completely remove the system from my Treg and could not be happier.

I know the T2's have this now as a standard feature, but reading about the levels not being adjustable or having a learning feature on it like the old system, I would rather turn it off.

Yeti, the levels are adjustable via the VAG-COM menu in the T2. In spite of the extreme cold here, they've worked well even, if I dare say, the calibration may be off (or it may just as well be my gauge that is off). I've tried 3 different TPMS modules for my D and none, not one of them worked. The measurements were so far off that it made them useless. I now run the caps with the little color bars. Not fancy schmansy but they work.

Thanks guys, these posts were helpful as reference. I made my TPMS selectable (saving about $450 for my winter tire/wheels) and shut the DRLs off. I wish the DRLs could be made selectable but as stated in ealier posts, its either on or off as a choice (09-Central Electronics: on the 2009 is Long Code and the MFT option just ain't there).

Actually you can change the bar setting for the TPMS alarm if you don't put nitrogen or want to overfill your tires for winter and still have it available.

Although being selectable in the MFI is fine for me (I already had the VAGCom for my Jetta), I had wondered about just turning the setting down with TPMS still on. I assume it leaves no indicator lights on (like the selectible functionality VAGCom option)? Thanks Siberian.

No, all it does is avoid the annoying alarms. However be warned that in cold weather, and folks I do mean COLD weather (by that I mean nothing above -40F - sorry but there are folks on this list that go to Lesotho thinking it's the North Pole in winter  ) if you do not over fill (to 57lbs/inch2 for example or do a nitrogen fill - expensive and if not all the air is taken out fairly useless) you will ride on square tires for the first few miles and dip well below the allowable low threshold for the tire. The alarm is annoying but it is trying to tell you something...

South Pole, actually... Lesotho feels like the SOUTH Pole in winter... :p

Since our winter is now officially over, I'll be heading off to Sodwana next week for a little scuba trip. Water temp should be in the region of 22-24°C. (I don't dive in anything less than 22°C).

I'm going to try my TPMS at a lower setting to see if I can still use it at "beach" pressures. I normally deflate to 1bar (14.5psi) in the soft stuff...

I do stand corrected, SOUTH Pole it is of course.

So now that you're off to bongobongoland for a little scuba, WE just put on our snow tires, got our first snow on the ground and will start running our dogs shortly... don't forget to pack a sweater for those cool nights it does get chilly on those beaches
