Dealers don't use VCDS. They have their own system.

Ross-Tech is an independent US company that has developed and sells VCDS which is the go-to OBDII reader for those who want to DIY or arrive at their VAG dealer with some foreknowledge of whatever fault their car might have.

I have a 2004 Touareg v8. I just changed my battery not even a month ago. I spent so much money on trying to figure out why the battery is draining. The mechanics couldn’t figure out the problem and said everything is fine. I do have a Kenwood car stereo in my car right now; the reason I changed to the Kenwood is because when I first bought the car the stereo didn’t work. I have brought it to 3 mechanics and they each said that’s not the problem. So now, I am not sure if that’s the cause of the drain or not. Do any of you have the same problem? I literally had to jump start my car everyday but now it won’t even jump start anymore.
You are so right Ive,got the same mine is more like centeral lock not your radio drianing all i am hoping when home evening take earth lead of until you wish to got to work next day ,she start next Day tell what problem would have!??

Hello and welcome tot he forums.
Are you talking about removing the ground from the battery so your parasitic drain doesn't brick it?

I just came across a 2004 toureg with battery drain issues and no code to help. Issue was the engine compartment light didn't turn off when I shut the hood...I pulled out the bulb and it fixed the problem....next step..it's either the light switch or a relay.... I haven't gotten back to it yet....cold weather last couple days.

Hmmm ... if the switch is bad in the hood latch, won't the dash show that the hood is open? Just asking.
Good catch on finding the hood bulb.
I have no idea...its just an uneducated guess. I know nothing about toureg. I'm not even sure if the underhood light is even part of it. It was so cold that once the battery drain was addressed I left. I'll go back to the owners house and dig around it tomorrow maybe.

Sorry . I didn't mean to imply those three thing where your issue, just battery draws to be aware of.

And if I remember correctly, that ground weld in the harness could cause some very strange issues.
Did you find the wiring diagram for the hood lamp?

I appreciate the help. No, I haven't started looking for the wiring diagram yet. If you know much about the wiring, would there be another switch or sensor for the light to shut off when the hood is closed or is that part of the hood latch switch....my guess is the hood latch switch is the issue, but I really don't know and I haven't looked at the vehicle for a couple days now to look around it. Again, thank you for your response on potential other issues that cause battery drainage. Glove box light would've been my next go to look, but glad it was the hood light not turning off when hood is closed.

What was your parasitic draw draining your battery after going through your fuses? Thanks!

Want an opinion on the test results and a possible solution.

After two hours of wait, hopefully with all the modules asleep, i put a clamp meter on the power cable coming from the genny to detect the draw if any by the gen. and was surprised to see .68 amp. I think, with the engine off there should not be any current flowing through the cable - is that correct?

So, if this draw is a problem, then a new generator is requird? Currently the charging voltage sits around 13.5 as per the V-meter in the dash and around 3.2 when i watch the battery function in the vcds.

Thanks
