Thx, I've read that tread before but I also posted a 2nd unit, the 2 pictures are from different units.

Thx. Is it the top or the bottom unit you installed ?

I have been looking at these units as well, i am little skeptical about them as they do not have a manufacturers name on them. i currently have a kenwood dnx8120 which is a great device but it just doesn't look right in the t-reg. I would like to get something that fills the entire space left vacated by my previous factory stereo and at least tries to match the interior. I also found this one on ebay, looks like it matches the interior pretty well and has a lot of great features. check it out.

I contacted Maisun after seeing this thread. They advised:

Thanks for your inquiry of our products but we are sorry to tell you that our unit 6509 special for Touareg can not be fully compatiable with the car 2004 and it can only be compatiable with the cars from 2007-2010. If the car is 2004, then the steel wheel control can not work.

I asked for price, delivery, installation and operation manual. Unfortunately, they do not have any installation instructions. So I have no idea what plugs it comes with or what electrical/speaker connections would need to be made. But the price is around $450 FOB China (quantity of 4 pcs required). Too bad it isn't going to be plug and play for 2004 - 2006 models.

Either the company doesn't know what they are talking about or this is a different unit. The unit I asked them about was the MT6509.

Did you have the CD nav system before you installed this? Or the standard radio w/o nav? Can you take some photos of the back of the unit showing the wiring? The company wasn't able to provide me with any wiring info.

Does your unit look like the one shown below?

I ordered this unit from smartauto24.com. This is where the people at cardct referred me to for purchasing. i asked them specifically if it would fit in my 04 touareg and they explicitly said yes. The unit is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, i will take pictures before and after installation and let you know how it works out. Hopefully it functions fully as they stated. My concern is what the people at Maisun said per the previous post. Stay tuned, i'll post pics tomorrow (as long as the device arrives)

Keep us posted on how this deal goes, I see a lot of interest about these units including myself :)

I thought it was brave as well, but i contacted them and exchanged more than one email to confirm explicitly that i had a 2004 w/o navigation and that the stereo would work. Hopefully the installer i use will be able to figure everything out. if not then i am back to square one, and out some time and money. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Spockcat. in regards to your comment, is there an issue with the audio when replacing the standard radio without navigation, or is that more of a problem when replacing the old CD nav units? I'm looking at replacing my standard radio from my 2009 with the CarDCT unit.

The CD nav uses a two channel low level output to the amp in the rear which is CANBUS controlled. The standard radio uses a 4 channel output directly to the speakers. There was also a "sound 1" option using the standard radio with 4 channel output to a rear amp.

So to replace the CD nav, you need rewire from the head unit to the speakers and use a different amp if the radio doesn't have sufficient output.

If he has a 2004 or if he had the standard radio (or both in this case), then he never had the original reverse camera.

As for the specs, I wish the company knew more about the product and the audio output. I just don't think this will work for a 2004/2005 CD nav Touareg without major rewiring.

Check the picture, the steering wheel control (vol+, vol-) is work well, but in MFD display NOTHING. When you turn the ignition on (not only insert the key, need insert the key and turn the power on), the CAN-BUS work, now can turn the head unit on, if you turn the ignition off, the head unit just turn off right away, even the key still in. The backup camera can switch by the head unit itself when you put the "R" shift. GPS and bluetooth work well(check the picture for the GPS antenna and bluetooth MIC). For the radio, the antenna input support the +12v for the antenna amplifier, the SD card (not the GPS card) max support 2G NOT sdhc card, the USB can support 8G USB memory flash at least, DVD work well.
This unit is plug & play.

Follow up from Smartauto24.com :
The GPS SD slot (left) support SDHC per our testing, 4GB class4 and 8GB class2 Sandisk/Kingston work properly.
The Multimedia SD slot (right) do not support SDHC per out testing.
We thank you for the question, we noticed inaccurate description on our site and already made correction.

www.szenco.com

These guys manufacture the 2nd unit with the SD cards hidden behind the buttons, they want 375+75 S/H+7% paypal fee. Has anyone bought from this company before? Looks like a good deal, they're listed on Alibaba.com, just I don't want to transfer close to 500 $ into the nowhere.

"The model you inquried is our VW-7018.It can support 4GB SDHC.
Price: USD375 for analog TV,with build in GPS,Bluetooth,Canbus.
Optional cost: USD10 for map.
Shipping cost:USD75 by DHL."

Any help appreciated, thx.

Well it seems to me that the ebay link that boygirlca provided in this thread, is the same SELLER as the one we were discussing in the Australia, New Zealand section of the forum, in the thread from OILSLURPER. No?

We have some feetback on this one from ebay.
The szenco one does not seems to specify it's designed for the egg, and
the one from smartauto24 says only 2007 and up.

But this been said the one from smartauto24 and e-bay seems to be the same product.

It's getting more interesting by the day. Anybody interested in a group buy? Seems like we have a bunch Canadians here interested.

Today I just check the USB port, it only support 8G usb flash dirves. I buy the 16G usb flash drives, but it doesn't work, so I separate it to 2 partition (8G each), and hide one partition, now it work like SD card. But in menu, no USB option to choice, you can use " SRC " to pick after RADIO option.
