Hi forum, new member here, looking for some advice before I buy myself a Touareg.

I"m looking to get myself into a Touareg, probably a 2019 or 2020 year with 100-150,000 kms on is the sweet spot of my price range. I'm looking at a couple on carsales and just wondering if there is any specific advice, warning signs to look for etc, especially on one with a few kms. I like the bells and whistles, so considering a 190TDI with a couple of the option packs or a Launch model (is the air suspension problematic?)

I'm coming from a mildly tuned Passat R-Line so will probably look for a tune on the Touareg too, any first hand advice on that path would be greatly appreciated too.

Thanks in advance!

I don’t own a CR, but biggest issue I’ve seen on the forum is to do with the infotainment (cameras not working, software glitches) so make sure the car you look at doesn’t have these issues and the software is up to date.

In terms of mechanical, they have typical 3rd gen 3.0 TDI issues such as timing chain rattle if not serviced regularly (unlikely to be an issue for a newer vehicle tbh) and potential rear main leaks and oil cooler leaks (not sure how bad these are on the 3rd gen 3.0 TDI)

In terms of air suspension, they seemed reliable on the 7P and I haven’t heard of any issues with the CR

Performance on the 190TDI is great stock, 600nm and 0-100 6.5 seconds, so the engine will be under more stress tuned obviously and if you drive your car hard like me, hence why mine is still stock lol

Best word of advice is to avoid VW dealers for maintenance unless you wanna pay 3x more for anything a normal workshop can do. Even better if you maintain it yourself

Regards

Go for it, CRs are pretty reliable in every way, if you like bell and whistles and more power then find a cr Wolfsburg

More power sounds good, but I like less bells and whistles and "assist systems".

Question are you going to tow with it and what there are different TBM for the different CR models. One poster mentioned VW dealer servicing costs look up VW Care service plans you can buy a VW service plan direct from VW for around $1400,, that gives you two essential services and two Essential - Plus services over 4 years what's more you can a little later purchase another 4 year plan that will commence when your existing plan expires so 8 years servicing for about 2600$$$. Personally I would rather take it to indepentent shop over VW, as they say diff fluids and transmission fluids are ‘lifetime’ where as an independent workshop will actually change them and prevent a replacement diff in the future
