7P V8 TDI coolant pump failure

Well for those who own a 7P V8 TDI if you are losing coolant this may be your issue.

I have found the leak and replaced 2 pumps on 2 separate cars now.

The first a 2016 that as in the video had failed the inhex drive shaft bearing.
This was requiring coolant top up every 2-3 days.

The second was a 2014 that had a somewhat usual failure and was leaking out of the telltale on the pump as the coolant track in the photo's shows.
This was only requiring coolant top up every couple of weeks but was relentless.
The inhex drive was good on this one.

Then we get to the actual replacement.
What a very unpleasant job requiring removal of front coolant pipes and hoses just to get to the pump.
Then with the drive shaft it is difficult to line up the inhex drive to fit the new pump in.

The pump as you can see which incorporates the thermostat is quite the unit and as well costs about $700 retail.
The other hoses and Orings adds about $120.
Then about 5-6 hrs labour ( I am not a speed worker either just methodical).

anyway, just info for those interested parties.

regards
Drag

Thanks Mark,
Mine is in at the moment for a coolant leak, (came with vehicle at purchase) with local dealer, seems to be leaking from the coolant return line, already replaced that pipe and hose, issue identified by Brisbane euro independent a couple of weeks ago,
pipe - 7P6 121 065 Q
hose - 7P6 121 051 D
seems not to leak when everything is at op temps but leaks when engine and coolant is cold, because of that my suspicion is if it is leaking from the parts mentioned that it's a connector problem as they reused the old clamps, that's what they are doing in the morning replacing the 3 clamps with new Ottingers and having a good look around with a cool engine in the morning, if this doesn't fix the problem then all bets are off and so am I.
Let me know you thoughts please....

Update,

The items shown above have been replaced but unfortunately the leak persists and now has been identified as definitely as a leaking water pump (thanks for confirmation, Drag).
So my CKDA is going into local VW dealer next week for a WP replacement, dealer quoted $1640 includes $640 for 4hrs of labour.

My vehicle is still under used car warranty so after some negotiation I managed to get the selling dealer (a Sydney Toyota dealer) to agree to cover the full cost of replacement however my local VW dealer will actually be doing the work.
I know it's hard to believe but good onya Toyota!

I'm very happy with result as it saves me an 800km round trip for me, not to mention if there are any warranty issues post replacement the VW dealer is only 40kms away. (y)

V8 TDI CKDA engine water pump failure is a usual failure. Pump driving shaft gasket is the failure. On my Treg, it started by a slow leak, say one dashboard light every month, need to refill with coolant. Then it became to light every week, then I saw cooland on my garage floor every day and decided to repair. Access is a mess, you have to dismantle all vehicle front end.

Hey Dragline (and others)
ordered parts by part number in other post, my parts have just arrive but coolant pump is just the pump itself (circled below)

is not the full assembly shown in your pics above,
question is,
Is it just the pump (and seals) that fail? and needs replacement?
or should i be sourcing other parts (housing ect I read somewhere vacuum ???) as shown in your pics

thanks
