Based on the review of 2015 it appears as though 4 X Motion will still be an option. Good News. Have used it a few times on our current trip.
Any idea if they will offer the 4xmotion in the v8?
Would love it and signup rightaway!

I doubt it, due to the much bigger and deeper side skirts and front and rear bars.

I wish VW would do a OFF Road pack with standard body but with proper underbody protection, Place to store full size spare. 18" wheels as standard. V8 Option and more aggressive tyres.

If they promoted this they would sell.

Well the r50 had 4xmotion. But the skirting needs to go.
Doesnt ur 4xmotion have underbody steel plates? Unsure if the off road styling pack which provided the grey plates are plastic or metal?

Indeed, but VW simply don't understand the premium 4x4 market otherwise the US [and others] would still have a HI/LO box and the V8 to drive it!

Nooby,

100% Agree.

I reckon They would sell plenty if they did the following option.

Touareg Dakkar Pack.

1. V8 TDI
2. Better Under Body Protection
3. Snorkel & Bar for lights
4. More Range in Air Suspension (Speed and Height)
5. 1 Meter Wading with Assistance from above. Protection for electronics breathers ect.
6. ATR Tyre Option
7. Front Diff Locker
8. Tyre Pressure Monitor and Inflator/Deflator built in.

Any other Options.

Tasty spec!

As well as a towbar correctly installed, wired and coded for the market the car is going into, I'd add a winch option too . . .

Packhorse and Nooby
agree with most of the suggestions (though I find the V6 TDi sufficent for most purposes).

However the first thing I would look for is

- A Full Sized Spare (on a Carrier)

Why did they ever stop this option? ](*,) Stupidity here in Oz. And while I am at it VW, why do you have 20" wheels on the 4XMotion here? Give us 17"s or at the very least the 18"s that are on the 150TDi.
The lack of a full size spare and 17" wheels is a serious impediment to upgrading from the current one.

- Place to mount aerials for CB and access holes to route the cables through

(I would like a roof mount so access above the rear door would be ideal - or through the spare wheel carrier cabling)

- dual battery system option

Oh and the wife would prefer a different colour choice rather than just black grey silver and white or the babys**t brown (which she especially hates with a passion and she reckons the blue is so dark it might as well be black - I tend to agree on both counts). Something lighter and brighter - red did I hear you say?

Just a couple of thoughts

I'd have thought white with cloth seats de rigeur in hot climates? Plus a cooling fan for your bum and back! [Reversible for the morning after a good hot curried koala of course!!]

Well I am happy enough with the while on ours, but that brown (it reminds me of baby nappies, or that oft mentioned curried koala :)

But the seats would be a nice option too, cooled seats what a good ideaBow Down

The plane fact is in the states most trucks or SUV's don;t go off of the road, so I'm guessing the market drives the sales and options. When the Touareg first came out I loved the truck for the fact you could get it with a locking rear, low gear box and a V8, back then I couldn't afford one. So I just bought Ford trucks and SUV's. Then Ford went and made there Explorer a 4 wheel drive mini van. Front wheel drive and uni-body consturtion. Then Someone totaled my 4 wheel drive Explorer and now I was back in the market looking for a new SUV to replace my old truck. After looking for a few weeks I found my choices limited as I didn't want to by a truck made in Japan, Ford was out Jeep was in, BMW in, Rover in and Volks. When I started looking at new Touaregs I found out that they dumb them down somewhat for gas mileage. No low gear no air ride no V8. Still a real nice truck but just not what I was looking for. My wife has a Range Rover sport SC and we love it but just to pricey for a second SUV LR4 nice but to boxy, and Jeeps up in price in the USA the last two years. BMW was hit and miss. I looked for a Touareg used but they seemed to be few and far out there. I was told every one holds on to them so this is why so few are for sale, and if you find one the miles are up there. So I kept looking and ended up buying a real nice clean 08 V8 loaded with 85000 miles on it. I drove 165 miles to get it. The the truck rides great, parts are pricey at best, I just spent over $1500 in (parts alone) for front and rear brakes, 2 rotors 4 sensors and four koni struts, and that's with my shop discount I'm also chasing down the water leak on the front floors from the roof or bulk head. Its on my lift as we speak.:p

Australia getting access to the 4xMotion version is dead!

Australia getting access to the 4xMotion version is dead! Spoke to VW last weekend and they confirmed such via an email from the Sydney corporate office. Continued discussions about ordering a production vehicle with required specifications similar to that shown on the UK and Germany websites but to no avail. Considering modern production procurement vehicles are now global its just doesn't make sense. I did ask if there was a restriction on VW corporate regional sales but no. Lease is up on our 2010 4xMotion and planned to purchase a new version considering the fun we have had on and off-road. But that now has evaporated.

It's a pity no more 4X, I wanted to changeover to another 4X. I learnt something in sales a long time ago... Sell people what they want, not what you think they need.

VW haven't got a clue how to market the Touareg.

Never have.

I can only assume they have limited production capacity and therefore aren't much bothered about jacking sales volume up since they couldn't supply, or they're a bunch of clueless dumb-arsed bastards who couldn't organise the proverbial piss-up in a brewery.

I suspect the latter more than the former by the way.

I understand that VW continue to produce 4X4 Motion, presumably because there is a viable business case to do so. Where are they being sold, and why can't we have one too.

My hope is that one day soon, VW (as a global giant) will offer Touareg buyers the ability to order a vehicle that is individually tailored at factory fit-out, at an affordable cost premium too. Technology to do so will not be the restraining factor ... more so the VW sales attitude as noted in other posts.

Guess I'm dreaming, and will have to get another 7 years of driving out of my 2012 Treg. At my current rate, that would put the odometer at close to 400,000km at 10 years .... hmmm.

I hear you unky, they lost me too... Hopefully the next model might have it.....

Will lose me as well. I agree with Unky. If they are made any where in the world why is it so hard to have one built for Australia. I had to wait 5 months after order for my 2012 so surely it couldn't be any worse to have one ordered.

Mine is 2 1/2 years old with 105K on it so would love to have bought another this year, but lack 4 X Motion has put me off and will have to look at other brands.

Have mentioned before. But this is my request of VW.

Dakar Special (Or some other name)

1. V8 Option (Although would happily take the newer V6 TDI)
2. Under Body Protection (Better then current)
3. 150 Litre Fuel tank
4. Full size Spare
5. Tyre pressure monitors (On board inflation)
6. 4 X Motion
7. 18 " Wheel option
8. Front locker optional
9 Greater range in Air Suspension (Increased speed in Off Road height)
10. Increase in Ball Weight to 350 kgs
11. Increase in Wading depth and option of Bull Bar and Snorkel

Happy to for go some of the extras with Blind Spot, Radar Cruise, Sun Roofs 21 Inch wheels ect so cant see why this special should be much different on price to V8 TDI

Forget it.

VW is controlled by accountants, not engineers.

The standard 3.0 TDi fits 98%+ of their target market and they don't give a full dunny bucket about the likes of you and others who want a REAL 4x4.

VW have passed up the opportunity to compete on more than equal terms with Land Rover and others and in doing so have missed out on supplying a wider market share.

I think the 'beef' we have in Aust is that VW is still producing the 4XMotion yet we can't get one in Aust. Does not your UK Escape model have 4XMotion? What's so special about the UK:)rolleyes:) [rhetorical question, no response needed].

What does it matter to VW if there is only a small market in Aust for the 4XMotion. I'd hazard a guess and say most Aust Touaregs are ordered (and then built & shipped from Bratislava) and not bought off the showroom floor.
So where's the issue for VW in allowing Aust buyers to order a 4XMotion? Is it the cost of adding a 4XMotion to the glossy brochure or web site?

Can't have anything to do with having to carry a larger spare parts inventory because most of the spare parts aren't even held in Aust - everything gets flown in on the back of an order.

Maybe I am missing something, who knows.
