How does our v6 differ from both BMW and Mercedes 3.0 diesel. Is internal 4 chain spec same?

The BMW isn't a V6 its an inline 6. The BMW is also a twin turbo vs a single turbo in the VW/Audi and MB engines
I'm not sure how many timing chains it has...basic configuration is similar (ie: its a v6, its a diesel, it has a single turbo, it uses common rail injection technology, the adblue systems are identical (MB, VW and BMW co-developed the system)) but Otherwise there is nothing in common..
Most reviews consider the VW engine to be the better of the two, but it depends on which review you read.
I personally don't mind the MB engine but find the VW and BMW versions smoother.

Diesel
Well my opinion based on driving all 3. The MB is underpowered and seems like is is straining all the time. The BMW is the strongest but is also the most diesel sounding, not all bad but you know its a diesel. The VW is what I picked and I am totally happy after the first 6000 miles. Its the best diesel I have ever driven.

IMO, the new 2012 MB diesel with about 255 HP has gone to the top of this group. All are fine engines but the new MB is sweet. Wish it had the VW 8 speed tranny though.
The BMW is not a twin turbo, it's a twin-screw single turbo and does seem to have the most diesel noise to it.
Audi holds the key with it's new triple turbo V6 diesel with one version at 315 (approx) HP. Will they share that with VW??? Audi A6 Avant (wagon) with that motor is the hot ticket--in Europe.
Audi also has the sweet V8 diesel which is used in European Touareg R line model. They really should bring that to the US.....please.....

I didn't look at 2012 info, interesting MB upped the HP, they needed it, bet that makes a real difference.
